Damaged VCD - Can it be recsued???

Hiya all,

I've got a vcd here thats got a scratch on it big enough to make nero chuck a hissie fit.

Is there any way to rescue the vcd? I know when other cd's get scratches the video jumps and sound goes distorted but the movie keeps playing.

Is there any program that'll give me a better result? Nero atm (v5.5.10) starts the read and gets to about 70% and then errors. i've gone into the cd copy options and turned on the "try to corerct data" under raw data reading but it doesnt work. I made an image and opened it with WinISO and the file wasnt playable (media player didnt even recognise it as a movie file).

Any takers?

Thanks!

btw...ur all l33t...but u already know that.

You could try something like ISO Buster to see if you can read the corrupt disc. No guarantees that it'll work, but, I'd say that's your best best. Also if you can, try reading it in a different drive. Some drives are better than others for reading damaged media. Good luck!

If the VCD means enough to you, and if the scratch is not 'fatal' (you decide), go and buy a 'CD scratch repair kit' from (almost) anywhere ... follow the procedure and you should be able to achieve a significant improvement in the disc's readability, hopefully good enough then to back it up. I have saved several CDs in this way - it's good to have the 'kit' handy!
