Cropping a video without messing with its codecs

Hello!
I need some help. I have an .avi which has horizontal black bars top and bottom. I would like to remove them, but without having to do anything about the codecs. Is it possible? I just want the codec to stay the way it is, exactly the same. I did it with virtualdub, but the result was an ~800mb file, when the original is 700.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

No, I tried full processing mode when i got an 800mb file. I tried selecting the other 3 options, but they all greyed out "filters". I tried direct stream copy anyways but it didn't work either.

Re: Cropping a video without messing with its codecs

if you make any changes to the video, you will need to recompress, that's why filters are greyed out if fast decompress is selected. You'll have to direct stream copy the audio and use a similar video bitrate to get the same size file. You'll lose a little quality, so not sure if it would be worth it just to crop.

Thanks for the reply. So there's no way of cropping without recompressing? It doesn't matter if it's with other software.

not that I'm aware of. All of the apps I've used like Premiere, Vegas, Avid, VD, etc all will recompress since you are changing the video.
