| Converting 4:3 to 16x9 WS I have a movie ( DVD ) thats rare and out of print. The original is only on a D5. It's called Dr. Giggles, A older horror movie. Today you can't find it or rent it. To buy it you would pay near 95.00 for it. What i want to do is convert it from 4:3 aspect ratio to 16x9 WS. Is this possible or just a dream. If it is possible will it be true 16x9 or some software botched aspect ratio. Because when converted and i played it back like in my Oppo 981-HD and if the aspect ratio does'nt read 16x9 and still 4:3 then it was all a waste. The software does not have to be freeware by all means however i would go for the best of the best. Please leave your opinion on what software to use reguardless of price, Thank you |

| Re: Converting 4:3 to 16x9 WS This topic is well covered in several old threads. 1st, you fail to mention what format the film is currently in. Is it letterbox? If so, you can use a couple different tools to crop the top and bottom black bars and create a 16:9 ratio image. That does not mean that you will like the results. You will be trimming a 480 image down to something like 350, then stretching it back up to 480 again. The image quality will be poor at best. If the current image is not letterboxed, but a "full-screen" image, there's nothing you can do. |

Dr Giggles is'nt that great. The price is high because it will no longer be in production. I got my original for $23.00. Look on ebay there going for 40.00-100.00. There is another movie thats rare called the Trees Lounge its out of production. The 4:3 aspect ratio copy you may find today still but the WS version goes for over 100 bux. I love that movie. Steve Buscemi the actor i went to school with and we lived on the same block when we lived in N.Y., Except today he has millions and i don't and we both don't live in N.Y. no more. The Trees Lounge was a bar we all hung out in when we were in our 20's in Valley Stream, L.I., N.Y. that movie just brings back memories to see my home town and block i lived on in that movie which Buscemi directed.

I seen that site with the Dr. Giggles DVD. But thats a Warner Bros release of some kind. The real original Dr.Giggles DVD release was put out by GoodTimes Home Video. The cover on this warner bros edition which i never seen looks just a little different then the original. What you actually found was the original WS version which was'nt made by GoodTimes. I want the original Trees Lounge in WS. I checked there and it's been back ordered since 08/2007 which i knew a few months back and it has'nt changed but they did find some WS Dr. Giggles DVD's. It looks like by the info on the site that they just put out this WS version of Dr. Giggles out on 09/25/07. I never seen a WS version of that B4. They just released one this yr. | Re: Converting 4:3 to 16x9 WS There's no point in trying to find an older, inferior DVD and paying some exorbitant price for it. Are you sure the original DVD release even had a widescreen version? Many titles released back then didn't; particularly movies like this. And even if there was a widescreen version, it probably wasn't anamorphic. Just get the new WB release... it's undoubtedly a better transfer, even if only for the widescreen.

The 4:3 Full screen i have is good enough. How many times can you watch it. It's just in the DVD closet with the other 1500 dvd's.
