can't initialize avi file - Club CDFreaks

hi all,

i am using cucusoft avi to dvd converter pro. when i try to open a file to convert it tells me that it can't initialize the avi file...it names the file it can't initialise then says ...compressor = XVID

it goes on to convert but as i am watching, the estimated file size is only like 160 megs and no preview soooo....

any suggestions?

Depends on the codec used in the file. Many types of MPEG4 are copy protected. Cucusoft is not well known for being particularly stable either.

i went to the cucusoft support site and downloaded the recommended codecs...but still not really working...

it did give me something, but low in MB, and i am now trying to burn it to dvd so i'll see what comes of it

That file is surely corrupt.

Get another version or the original source.

if you mean the movie file, well it isn't just the one file, i have about 10 of them and the same thing happens to all.

Anyway, it counts for them too then.

run Gspot on them and find out the missing codec.

hi thanks, ok so i tried g spot, though i am quite amateur at all this, i saw that for both audio and video it stated that codecs are installed....

does that mean i have the right codecs? is it cucusoft?

i used it fine last week now it can't initialise any avi files.

Then the files (or just their headers) are corrupt.

You can open up such files with virtual dub, make sure you select extended open options in the opening dialogue and then enable "re-derive keyframe flags" and OK.
