| Any FAST copy programs?? I record alot of TV programs with my (defective) Liteon 5005 and then try to copy/backup the recorded disk in my computer. Almost uniformly, the windows program will not copy the disk and Sonic and Nero will not copy the disk all due to CRC errors. I then use DvDecrypter to make a copy. Typically, it will take anywhere from 1-12 hours and run into anywhere from 20-1000 errors BUT it does copy the entire recorded disk. I then play the copied disk and quite often I can't even detect any errors or bad pictures. Sometimes, I do notice limited blocking or bad pixels but it has always been pretty minor. So--what I'm looking for is a program that would copy a defective disk very quickly==don't try to correct anything that is there, just copy the original very fast==ie 15-20 minutes with glitches and all as the final product is acceptable to me. I have looked at 4-5 copy programs (CD Recovery, Unstoppable Copier, ISO Recovery for instance) and they all seem to do the same slow recovery. Anybody know of a fast straight copy program?? //// bobbo.

| Re: Any FAST copy programs?? I don't think you will find software that will do what you are asking. By nature software copying programs are designed to correct errors (they do things like slow down the read, multiple scans etc - it is this that enable you to get copies). You are essentially asking for software to copy a disk errors and all. I don't think your problem is really software related but much more likely to be media/firmware related. A key point to understand is that you might not have problems with the disk - it might be a reading problem. The liteon actually uses a a sightly different file system (DVD-VR) to normal dvd recorders (DVD-Video). They are largely compatible but some readers struggle to read Liteon disks. If you visit and search the Liteon forums, you may get better advice. Liteon's can be quite picky about media used. I use Ritek +Rs and find them to work well. It may be the Liteon is writing ok but your DVD reader is struggling to read the disks (again it could be media related). Have you recently updated the firmware on your DVD reader. I have a combi reader and a DVD writer on my PC, and I find sometimes 1 will read a disk whereas the other won't. Also have you updated the firmware on the Liteon recently? Again if an old version of firmware, you can get problems. With ref to reading and copying, the simplest test is to drag and drop using explorer. By and large if this runs into problems, it suggests one of the above issues. Finally, have you considered fact that it is probably cheaper these days to simply buy a new standalone dvd recorder than to buy software to solve your problem (I doubt any of the low cost packages are celever enough to solve you problem). |

| Re: Any FAST copy programs?? Hi Oilman--like your practical advice. YES--you are exactly correct. I would love a copy the original, errors and all, copy program. After struggling with this for 18 months now, I am convinced the "problem" is the original burner in the 5005 and I am now waiting for a new replacement from newegg. I use TY media 4X write once. This media is flawless in my Benq Computer burner and works only "mostly" in the Liteon. Actually, it burns totally acceptably in the Liteon but creates "glitches" that aren't noticeable during replay, but do prevent the computer from copying all as described above. The software/firmware in the liteon was upgraded once and there may be another version available but I would be "afraid" to use it. Before the upgrade, the Liteon was almost unusable. Now it performs as described and I am afraid an upgrade might revert to a worse state rather than a new and better state??? I have no confidence I could go back to the earlier software as I see threads where Liteon often prevents going "backwards." I plan to post if a new burner solves my constant compatibility problem. It shouldn't hurt though? And if it does work, I'll get two more for my other machines!! The negative cash flow never stops!! (smile)==bobbo.

If ISO works, it will be great to see if more of my RW's are actually useable too. /// bobbo.
