Another VCD problem

Heres my problem. Nero will not recognize my burner. VCD easy will not recognize my burner. Other VCD programs wont either. The see it as a drive, but not as a recorder. I have the up to date driver, as far as I know (that being wha my computer says when I try to update it) I really dont know what to try next. I would prefer to use nero if I can get it to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

C. Flagg

PS Here is the log from VCD easy. i saw the bit about the driver, but dont know what to do.

It would help if you told someone what your actual burner is by name and model

Well, I guess that would be helpful. I am running XP Home addition with a 700 mhrz pentium 3, and 512 megs of RAM. My burner is an HP CD writer 8200 series.

As for for aspi drivers, Im not sure. I am assumming that is something important? Im pretty new at burning anything other then a musice or data CD. Hopefully, that will not be th case for much longer.

Thank you for your help and quick response. I really appreciate it.

I suggest you install WinASPI 4.60 ( and NOT 4.7.1 ) from http://www.bulletproofsoft.com/download.html

then config VCDEasy to use the ADAPTIC aspi and not the Nero one.

Chickenman, you rock. I think that worked. VCD easy burned my movie, well, easy. Or so it says. None of my DVD software seems to be able to play back any of my DVDs all of a sudden. Only audio. (Ive contacted DELL for assistance with that, I dont think its a software problem.) However my new VCD acts the same way as any other standerd DVDs I own, so Im assuming that the burn was a success. I live in small town Japan, so I cant exactly find a buddy next door with a western DVD to test my new VCD.

That being said, I have a couple of questions if you dont mind.

1. Can I copy this VCD with CloneCD and have the copy play on standerd DVD players like the original?

2. Why did you recommend the aspi drivers for Win2000 and NT rather then the XP versions?

3. Should I just write Nero off, since it will not recognize my Burner, or is there another set of divers of some thing I could/should/need to install?

Thanks for all you help. I appreciate. Now I can bore people in a whole new way with home movies I m sure intrest nobody but my self.

Thanks again,

C. Flagg

A1. You can use just about any software to copy your new VCD to CDR. I tend to use Diskjuggler for that. I only use CloneCD for copy protected stuff, never VCD's. As for them playing on a DVD Player, thats dependant on the DVD Player beng capable of playing VCD's in the first place. Not all do. Also the actual brand on media used has some bearing as well as burn speed, keep it slow, 16x max.

A2. Ver 4.60 has proven itself time and time again to be more stable than the newer 4.7. Stick with what works and not what Apeptec says.

A3. VCDEasy is by far the best software for burning VCD's and SVCD. Nero is normally fine for VCD's but crap for SVCD. Latest ver 6.x is causing all sorts of problems also. For VCD's just stay with VCDEAsy.

Re: Another VCD problem

Hey ChickenMan,

I know this might seem a very late post to you but I had no choice. You are the best and this prob should be a piece of cake. I 've bought a new Pioneer DVR 107D and the freeware(old) version of VCD Easy always complains about wrong drivers. I have selected Force Drivers in the drivers page and no matter what driver I select it gives me the same error. I am sick and tired as this S/w is the best for VCD's and SVCD's as Iknow from the experience of using it with my old burner(CD Writer). I would appreciate any assistance you could give me in this regard. I also have ASPI 4.60 installed. I always select the Nero ASPI for the burn settings in the VCDeasy s/w. I also have the drivers for CDRDAO V1.17 installed. I am at the end of my patience as I've tried everything and come up empty.

TIA.

Re: Another VCD problem

If your running W2k or XP I would select SPTI rather than Nero ASPI and the write driver set to "generic-mmc". If that does not work, I'd suggest an upgrade of VCDEasy. I'm running VCDEasy 2.02 with my Pioneer 108 with no problems.

A simple soultion is to slip your old CDR Burner back in as well, I have left mine in and use it for 99.99% of CDR burning.

Re: Another VCD problem

Hi ChickenMan,

Thanks for your advice. I'll try the other choices in drivers but cant do the other drive thing as XP forces the DVD writer to PIO if I do that. See Microsoft Knowledge base Issue 817472.

Thanks.

Re: Another VCD problem

another solution is to output your VCD to an image file, then burn that image with a program that will work with your new burner.
