Adding a VOB file whole into Nero Vision Express 2

I'm trying to Restructure a DVD-R by importing the 10 programme VOBs into Nero Vision Express 2.1.2.18, then creating better menus etc. than my Panasonic DMR-E50 did.

But for some reason, the 10-minute long VOB files get broken up into 30-second segments (the add files process even tells you it's going to import the video 'segments', rather than just the one file).

These can then be merged together again in Vision Express, but the joining causes a stutter on playback.

How can I make Vision Express read the whole VOB file and not split it? If I record on to DVD-RAM with the E50, then import the title as a +VR recording, it all works perfectly - it's just the DVD-R VOBs that seem to get split up.

Other than this one little annoyance, I think Vision Express 2 is a great DVD author - if only they'd add the ability to change the menu font size.

Cheers,

Martin.

Have you tried DVDlab? You can import the vobs direct and sort your menus as well.

Re: Adding a VOB file whole into Nero Vision Express 2

I've come up with a work-around. I can use Nero Recode to convert the vobs to mp4 files. I little trickery is required to make it store the mp4 files to the hard drive rather than write them to a dvd and keep them at 100% quality. Then the mp4 files can be imported into nero visionexpress and they stay as whole files. There appears to be a very slight loss in quality doing this, plus there's the time necessary to do two sets of transcodes.

But it works!

Re: Adding a VOB file whole into Nero Vision Express 2

Creating a DVD using VisionExpress from VOB files alone.

What you want: a DVD with a title page, chapters.
What you have: a set of VOB files.
What happens: VisionExpress insists on reducing your 1Gb VOB file to 0.02Gb or so when you 'Add Video files'.

Here's the solution many seem to be looking for.

Solution:
1. Download IFOEDIT
2. Use it to generate VOB & BUP files for each VOB, renumbering these to match carefully.
3. Open VisionExpress and then ADD Video files. You will find the whole VOB is now added, and you can edit the video and add chapters as you're meant to.

The IFO file must be present as well as the VOB file for Vision Express to read the whole VOB file.

Problem 2
I found that installing the MPEG2 codec caused Vision Express to break up the VOB files (at that time without IFO files in the same folder) into many mpg's. Maybe this works ok if you have the IFO file in the folder too. I've not tried that.

Nero Support
- said- wrongly - I'd got an OEM version of Vision Express
- told me to upgrade to verision 7. (I had Ultra 6.6).
- Uninstall and use the clean tool and resinstall.
Oops.

I hope that helps some others.. it cost me a lot of time to discover how to rebuild a DVD from recovered files.

(Ok, you can generate a title page from your shrunken VOBs, but then you still have to use IFOEDIT to generate the IFO and BUP files, and then use Nero Express (not Vision Express) to burn the DVD, using the intact original VOB files).

TSUNAMI-MPEG DVD Author PRO will import DVDs, allow editing of content and creating of menus - works great with my Sony TV DVD Recorder!
