Complete with the integration of all current drivers from DriverPacks.net, IE7, .NET Framework 1.1, 2.0 SP1, 3.0 SP1, 3.5, the latest DirectX 9.0c (March), Windows Media Player 11 with all Hot Fixes, integrated CD Key and tweaked preferences.

The tested installations went flawlessly.
I am now up to date.
Well I did everything except .net 3.5 I couldn't get it to integrate
did sp3 IE7 WMP 11 but had to install .net 3.5 post. What did you do to get .net to integrate??

Re: Windows xp sp3 thread

Success SP3 update on my Dell laptop. I had recently done a chkdsk, defrag and virus scan and had all SP2 updates in place. Downloaded the .ISO update file and made a CD. I disabled my avast! antivirus program and then ran the update from the CD. Took about 20 minutes to install/reboot. Next stop, the desktop and my daughter's laptop..... regards, gamma1

I used RyanVM Integrator v1.53 to integrate the .NET Framework All-In-One addon pack created by jd976.

besides for video driver issues I have heard mention of some multimedia drivers hosing the upgrade, I never did like any extra low level drivers messing with the system bus anyway

It was some registry entries which caused a problem. Microsoft, on their web site, claim that some programs change a registry not allowing SP3 to be installed properly.
I just ran their script tool and noticed that some registry entries were in red and being fixed. After that SP3 installed without a problem.
Before that I was getting "Access Denied" sign.

Just like in my posting #18....reghosting a working image back seems to fixed my problem after SP3 install....weird but well it worked so I am happy with it.

Re: Windows xp sp3 thread

I believe the script in question is the WSH 5.7.

I should mention that these problems do not exist with an SP3 slipstreamed source and it's to my understanding that SP3 has WSH 5.7 in it.

NTLDR is missing (only happened after sp3)

installed windows xp(tiny xp) preloaded with sp3 on 5 computers, 4 worked better than ever... and then this one computer worked for a day then did'nt boot. NTLDR missing message... and then i found a website
http://www.tinyempire.com/shortnotes...dr_missing.htm
that solved my problems on this one computer...(it was the only computer I did not built that was causing problems).
Note all computers had Vista 64 bit ultimate edition on the computers and then decided to upgrade to tiny xp with service pack 3 will never go back...

Could I get a link to that script tool. Thanks.

I loaded SP3 successfully on my two laptops, but got this same endless reboot on my HP desktop. I was able to boot to Safe Mode and from there did a System Restore. So I guess the desktop remains SP2

It sounds as if you both might have HP computers with AMD processors. The fix is to boot into safe mode and disable "intelppm" from the recovery console.

See this link for details:

Go to this page and read "Method 3"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377

There is a script for Notepad and program you need to run it.
Once you install the program, click on the script file and it will start checking registry. It take a little while.

You are correct I have an AMD based computer, but its not an HP, I built it myself. The chip is the Opteron Dual Core 185.

The other endless loop fixes for AMD chips are located in the same link. Most of the problems stem from OEM versions of XP that contain drivers for both AMD and Intel chips in the same OS.

Also, since you have an AMD chip, it won't hurt to disable intelppm.

Re: Windows xp sp3 thread

Hello

I've had a bad experience - two, to be precise. A couple of days ago i did a clean install of genuine Windows XP Home (SP 2) on an Acer Travel Mate 2300 laptop, and after that was installed, right after installation of all the drivers and Windows activation, i did the update.

First it got the "Genuine Advantage" thing and then it offered me the SP 3, so i went for it.

It installed and worked fine.

HOWEVER after it was done, ANY subsequent download from Microsoft refuses to install! This means any regular updates (from Windows Update) as well as things like Live Messenger, WMP 11, IE 7 etc. They all download fine, but won't install.

I had to install each one manually (updates go to c:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution) and grab the standalone installers for Live Messenger, WMP, IE etc.

Then yesterday i did the same on a home-built desktop (AMD Athlon powered), same thing - clean install of XP Home SP 2, and update - and THE SAME HAPPENED AGAIN.

Now as the two computers are as different as they could possibly be, the fault lies clearly with SP 3.

Best regards.....

Thanh

First off XP Home isn't the better of the XP O/S...rather you should get XP Pro for better usage then go SP3. I have my SP3 on my XP pro O/S and it works good.

There are 2 instances of the intelppm.sys file on my computer both in system32 folders. I also use the dreaded AsusAN8-SLI32-Deluxe Mobo that evryone is saying that is causing the problem.

I built this computer from parts from Newegg, even the XP Pro disc. Thee is nothing Intel on this computer. But those files were there, just do a search I bet they are on yours also.
