Upon further review it looks like it's the Windows Vista.

Re: Windows XP Service pack 3 "Build 2"

I think not!!
The Vista ISO is a DVD and is over 3 GB in size.

The complete Windows XP SP2 CD is not even 700 MB, so it is doubtful that a Service Pack would be 699 MB.

I put it in the drive and clicked on properties, says "Windows Vista". I have no idea, was just reporting what it says.

i wouldn't trust files that are obtained from a p2p site to be what they say they are.

I second that...I wouldn't trust what's on that disc as far as I could throw it

Plus SP3 isn't even out for beta at all to no one, so this is a warez hack sad to say.

Re: Windows XP Service pack 3 "Build 2"

Well i have several spare PC's in the basement so i'll load it on one of them and see what gives. He did tell me his son installed it on his P488 system and he says it runs fine and really sped the system up. I was just trying to figure out what the heck it is. Thanks for the replies.

From what I read, XP SP3 isn't released until 2nd half of 2007. So I wouldn't trust that downloaded file, but that's up to you. Always update from the microsoft update site.

Re: Windows XP Service pack 3 "Build 2"

Since Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 there have been about 130 updates released (EXCLUDING Malicious Code Updates, MS Connect 2.0 and general crap like KB905474) this figure also includes updates for Office XP Post SP3. The total size of these 130 odd updates is 250MB, I have them all filed by month and batch file install them if I ever do a PC rebuild, this saves massive amount of time.

As for Service Pack 3 for Windows XP, it is LONG overdue, 2007 is simply taking the pissoir! What they really mean is we'll only create SP3 if people don't rush out and buy Vista.

P.S. If your download was Windows Vista (Beta 2 at least) you wouldn't be able to see anything other than a text file on the disc because the file system that's been used on what is in fact a DVD-ROM (in the case of Beta 2) is not compatible with Windows XP. It is however bootable in a DVD-ROM drive.

Re: Windows XP Service pack 3 "Build 2"

There are files released under "XP SP3" or such names. They are custom-packed by individuals outside Microsoft. Unofficial, and not even beta.

Re: Windows XP Service pack 3 "Build 2"

Wouldn't touch custom/unofficial service packs myself, occasionally I have used official beta service packs (and have allways ended up rolling back to the last "proper" one).

Definatly would not try using service packs from eMule, just asking for trouble.

Old thread but who cares..
Anyway, i must say that having a hacked operating system is one of the silliest things a man can do.
Not to offend you,i'm sure you use it for test purposes only.

Re: Windows XP Service pack 3 "Build 2"

Maybe I do not understand but this looks like some sort of " Transformation Pack" that changes key Windows .sys files. Not a good idea at all.

I've seen this on a friend's pc. Basically, it's a Vista transformation pack. Looks nice, but who wants a lot of eye-candy which only consumes resources? I even used xplite to slim down my xp!

On the subject of tweaking your XP and the mysterious SP3 which we believe will now be released in early 2008 (so if it works don´t "fix" it...just wait!)
here´s a website that may be of interest to the fiddlers: http://www.tweakxp.com/
