![]() If your thinking of trying it. You don't even need a HD. Run from your DVDRW. Take a look at Ubuntu : I think it's a pretty good place to start. | |

| Re: Windows Defragmenter I know what you mean Womble they all have fancy graphic display that show nice lines of green with no red when finished. I've stuck with Paragon HD Manager 2008. They give you an ISO of a WinPE boot version that shows how poor the others might be. I've tried, paid for and used O&O v.10, and Perfect Disk 8.0 and TBH they're not great. With Paragon HDM under PE you can defragment and compact the MFT, then defragment. First one I've truely felt a speed increase with; or at least a lack of chattering from the sys disk. I don't know how the others try to do it with having the system disk still mounted. Half the time with O&O the off-line defrag never kicked in ![]() |

| Re: Windows Defragmenter Hi ![]() you're right about O&O & offline defragging imkidd57. However Paragon isn't worth a lot with either 64 bit OSes or Vista full stop. The latest PerfectDisk2008 has made some inroads. If you're going to pay for such s/w PD2008 & UltimateDefrag2008 are the only ones considering at present. |

| Re: Windows Defragmenter O&O Defrag Pro users... Which defrag method do you guys use? I'm on a laptop running Windows XP Pro that I use at home for regular average stuff, couple of games, surfing, burning music and movies, etc.. Do you guys use Stealth, Space, Complete/Name, Complete/Modified, or Complete/Access?

| Re: Windows Defragmenter Hi ![]() IIRC use Stealth 1st regardless. With a laptop, it might be worth using Stealth all the time. Although I used to use Complete/Access on my desktop. Until Vista caused me to look elsewhere. Stealth is a general program. Space as the name applies, should free up as much space as possible. Complete/Name files are alphabetical. Complete Modified will sort modified files in order. Complete/Access defrags files in order that you use them. Making most used files easiest/fastest to access. |

| Re: Windows Defragmenter Okay, guess Stealth is the way to go, BTW, I dl'd Ubuntu and will fiddle with it later. Oh yeah, what the heck does IIRC stand for, I looked it up and it doesn't seem to fit in ur sentence the way it was defined?

| Re: Windows Defragmenter And, for any video folks out there, all the video software people, recommend that you defrag before each video capture and/or before encoding. It reduces the likely hood of sync issues.
