Can any1 tell me the main differences among xp home, pro and pro corporate?

XP home is only an update

XP pro is a full instilation and update

XP corperate has only a cd check key and no required ms registration


i'd get the one that comes to you at the right price



btw i strongly recomend installing kazza and making full use of all that the net has to offer

Thats not acurate. both Home and Pro can be purchased as full installs or upgrades. Both home and pro require a cd key and activation unless you have a corperate version. XP Home Upgrade can only upgrade over 9x while Pro can upgrade over NT 2000... Home defaults to a FAT 32 install while pro defaults to NTFS. XP Pro supports multi processors and comes with IIS XP home can only support one processor and although it can log on to a domain, it can not be managed like pro can policies ect ect...

im have all three versions...
i don't want a NTFS partition, i want Fat32
i want a stable system, i make divx and play some games, videos and mp3 mostly.
Is home fine? or you say pro/corporate?

home is a pointless waste of time go for corporate, as it does not have the product activation **** in it. And if you have a partition >30GB i surgest you format it to NTFS, FAT32 iritates me, perticularly the 2GB file size limit. Its quite funny actually, when you copy a file larger than 2GB to a fat32 partition, it comes out with a negative size

I do not think that is quite accurate. You can partiotion it more than 2GB by using fat32.

One thing I know different between home edition and pro edition is network support (should I say network ability?).

Home edition does not allow you to access network through domain - that means you cannot access or share in the office or school where LAN has been set.

Ugly duck, I dont think nb was saying that fat 32 had a 2gb partition limit. He was talking about issues with files larger than 2GB.

I just wonder why Microsoft did that, What is main point to remove some functions from Home edition?

One of my friend bought a laptop (Win XP home edition pre installed) and could not use a laptop what he would have like to use, and we found out that Home edtion would not support those things as you mentioned (could not join the domain...) :mad:

I have WinXP pro corperate? Wow, didn't know that. I thought it was just WinXP pro. I wondered why I didn't have to do microsoft certify thingy.

Oh and there are also the "hacked" versions. There were alot of these floating around on Usenet and other places that didn't require activation or a product key. Most of them contained a hacked Winlogon and built in trojan horse programs.

okay, how to you tell if you have XP pro or corporate?

I got mine from a "respected" place and not off some stupid warez site but I don't want trojans or hacked logons!

Wiz, I wasn't trying to say that you had a hacked version.

If you got your XP at a respectable dealer then more than likely it is not "hacked".

If your windows XP Pro does not require activation, it is the corperate version.

The best way would be to compare it, (the files), to a legit copy

I am not trying to condone piracy but it is public knowledge that a XP key generator has been released and is readily available on the Internet. This being said there is really no reason to be using a "copy" of XP that may be "unsafe"

And of couse what's the harm of using this "keygen" (which I can assure you works perfectly ) on your legit copy of Win XP? Or Office XP either?

That way you can still have it on your Desktop & laptop as in days gone by upto Win Me. Uncle Bill don't want that of course, but are you really going to go out and buy Office XP Pro for £550 and then buy another for your laptop? Yeah right!

Of course, I am not encouraging anybody to carry this out as it would break the "M$ end user agreement" which perrish the thought none of us would ever do.

with all that said...might i add .......... the new "Kazza lite" is add and spyware free and readily awaiting downloading and installation on kazza liteless systems

I stumbled on to this accidentally. I don't know if the license allows for this but I had several legit copies of Office XP Pro pass through my hands and sure enough each would install and activate on two computers but as soon as it was installed on a third one the activation failed.

Not quite true. Users who demand the most from their computer use Linux.
