Re: What is the Best Media Player? For videos - KMPlayer. Build-in codecs (plays mov, rm, nsv, flv...) and a very good flexability in terms of control, you can tune it up very precisely that suits better your taste. For the audio I cannot decide. Maybe iTunes. I like its interface and ergonomics but it's really bloated in the best traditions of WMP. So to escape iTunes "heaviness" I oftenly use AIMP. Also foobar is good in terms of sound quality.

Re: What is the Best Media Player? Help! I need some advice and/or suggestions. I have 3 media players in my computer. each does a particular thing. wmp- I create and burn playlists. winamp- I use shoutcast radio. Will only burn at 2x on the free version. iTunes- It has a copy/paste that I use for pasting playlists into my Print Artist Program to make my cd labels and cd jacket labels. It is a resource hog. Also this player skips the slight nuances in cds that is noticeable. Does anyone know of a good media player that has a copy/paste feature, other than iTunes? ![]() Thanks ![]()

Re: What is the Best Media Player? After searching the internet, I found a solution to the problem. I removed iTunes from my computer. For WMP 11, I downloaded Morisoft Playlist Copier from Plugins.com. It is easy to use and allows me to edit the playlist in my Print Artist program. I still have Winamp for the shoutcast radio. You can generate a playlist copy for Winamp, but it is very cumbersome to use. I am going to try out some of the other media players. Possibly I will find better player(s) than I have in my computer now. Thanks ![]()

Re: What is the Best Media Player? I do it the old fashioned was. I use Power DVD and WMP 10 and Quick Time 7 and Real Player 10 and Winamp Pro 5.2. I configure each one accordingly and I never have a problem with anything. No conflicts, no surprises, just multimedia bliss. Also, Roxio contains the codec for WMP to play MPEG(DVD) perfectly. I only use Roxio to do data stuff and make labels for CD's and DVD's.

Re: What is the Best Media Player? i just did a test with the following programs: Quintissential: nice balanced sound, robust, treble and bass both distinct VLC: i think its a virus Foobar: very simple, I really liked the explorer-style interface, small footprint, clear sound, slightly weaker than Qintessential Winamp5531: weakest of all the programs for sound quality weak bass and sounds quite gutless Nero 8 Showtime: best overall sound, completely crystal clear pounding bass.. the best decoder by far.. but no playlist capability Creative Playcenter: sounds like windows media player Creative Media source player: sounds the same as playcenter Windows Media Player 11: sounds better than winamp, sounds WAY weaker than some of the other programs Realplayer: I feel its too malicious to be on my system... it will never release its claim on your video or audio files. Even if you tell windows to open all mp3s with another program, Realplayer will overrride the windows setting and automatically launch itself... I hate that... BEO: was my favorite program overall, for the interface, it would be what i used if not for the profound discovery i made from teh next program, which stole my vote... and the winner.. hands down, is... Jetaudio: for 2 reasons.. it is the one that comes closest to the Nero sound, and the MOST important aspect for me, it plays all your sound files evenly through all 6 speakers in a 5.1 speaker enviornment. I have Creative 5.1 speaker system and all the other programs only play my left front and right front channel, except NERO, which also plays front center, so it plays 3 speakers, and wih the Nero Decoder it tries to make some pretty weak matrix for a "5.1" sound it pulls off of the 2 channel stereo making the 2 rear channels weak and crappy, but much better than the Dolby codec included in Nero. JetAudio was the only one that played all 6 speakers equally clear, at the same quality and tone... NONE of the other ones do that, as soon as I turn down the front left and right channels none of the other programs could produce any sound at all. I HIGHLY recommend JetAudio foranyone wishing to get all 6 or 8 speakers in a 5.1 or 7.1 system bumping...(assuming 7.1 will work equally well) JetAudio more than doubled my audio output volume and it bumps from all angles around the room. as it should...

I'm intrigued by your VLC comment, though - what makes you think it's a virus? Nothing amiss picked up by my AV software, and VLC does it's job very well for me. BTW, welcome to the forum. ![]()

Re: What is the Best Media Player? I still use WinAmp for my music player. If I wanted exaggerated bass, there are hundreds of plugins that can distort the sound in hundreds of ways. Perhaps your preference is colored sound, but I'll stick with accuracy and clarity.

I recommend VLC for all video use, including DVD viewing. But this link is out of date: you should visit http://www.videolan.org/ for reference.

Re: What is the Best Media Player? I don't limit my choice to "What is the Best Media Player". I have nero, WMP11, VLC, FLV, Winamp, Quicktime, WinDVD 8. Also I have cole2K advance codec installed and nero codec installed as well. So rather then saying what is the best one should ask what works well in your configuration and software setup. So as I stated I don't limit my choices to just one player, I rather like variety to pick and choose from.

i ran the test with UB40's "tell me is it true", which has a nice robust sound from low to high, through the whole range.. Quintissentials was nice, i'd probably default to that for ease of use, but the sound seemed alittle too much like just amplified bass and treble, those two only, quite seperate, and lacking a little of the robust fluidity of the fullness that should tie everything together. BEO reminded me of something that BOSE would create and would be optimal if you had an already comprehensive library you need an interface for, provided you could figure it out without calling a BEO representative over to you house to set it up. (not really that difficult) jetaudios was alittle too heavy on the bass, but it also seemed quite full and fluid through the rest of the range, it all seemed tied together well.. anyway, i love a little extra bass with EVERY genre of music.. I downloaded VLC, clicked on the VLC icon (which was blank) and it opened a DOS window for a few seconds, then closed, and nothing was installed.. exactly like many viruses do... it probaby was a virus or something malicious from a dead link.. i got it at the companys website.. i guess i could try it again.. but i figured its probably a dos based based program anyhow, and while theres many good freeware programs that do that, it still seems a little outdated, probably bare minimum programming.. i dont know.. im happy with Jetaudio.. actually, after installing and using some other programs the jetaudio started to play like the other programs, wihout all 5 speakers... , i had to uninstall and reinstall it to get it to work right again.. so i'll probably just stick with it.. for audio for some reason the video has weak sound... really weak.. i cant get the volume up to 20% of what the audio can go.. maybe its some limitation in my Creative live 24-bit external audio component.. i will probably try plugging it in to my creative card, i use the external usb device because i swithch the audio between 4 computers, sharing the speakers.. i havent tried it on my other computers yet either, one with 7.1 sound... and did someone say winamp has "real sound"? how do u figure that? the sound quality is so weak and bland and colorless compared to ALL the other programs...it sounded like it was designed for use with laptop speakers or something.. anyway, all the programs i tested were "as is" without any tampering with FX and without any plugins and nothing else, exaclty as it is when its installed Last edited by chinarabbit2008; 16-05-2008 at 18:38.
