| Virtual Folders Hi, I'm not quite sure how to explain this but I'll give it ago... basically a few months ago I found something that would let you relink a folder to a different folder so you could have a folder say "C:\Music" but when you went into it it would show you the files in "D:\My Shared Folder\Finished Music\" it wasn't just creating a shortcut it was acutally phisically changing the stored path of the folder to something else so even if you cd'd to c:\music at a cmd prompt you'd still be in "D:\My Shared Folder\Finished Music\" I remember thinking at the time it that it might come in useful someday and of coarse now the day has came and I've completely forgot how to do it all I remember is that is was cmd prompt command and I think it was a built in windows commandCan anyone help me out? Thanks |

| Re: Virtual Folders You can't do it with a builtin Windows command, but there's a small command-line utility called junction that can do what you want. This utility is freely available from SysInternals - get it here.

| Re: Virtual Folders You might search Google and/or Microsoft for "NTFS reparse point(s)" for additional information and utilities on this subject. Such "Virtual Directories/Folders" should not be deleted with windows explorer as it will recurse and delete the real folder also. It might be a good idea to set (acls) permissions to prohibit such accidental deletions. |

| Re: Virtual Folders I made a dummy folder and tried setting the delete option to deny under the advanced button of security tab in folder properties for all users but it still lets me delete how can I set the permissions so that I can't accidently delete? |
