I want to give a house-warming party with my friends. During that party we want to play synchronized music in all rooms. We thought we could realize this by setting up a shoutcast server. Every pc in the local area network logs in to the stream from the central server, everybody connects their pc to an amplifier and off we go!

But now I've done the above but apparently every stream has a certain amount of delay compared to the server. This varies from 2 secs to almost 30 secs... Anybody any idea how we can overcome this problem?

There's some open source shoutcast server for linux distro's , but i doubt it will be synchronize music amongst multiple clients.

This thing seems to do it , but is gonna cost you some money.

Ok, thanx for taking a look at this question! I already found that device you also mentioned, but you are right, I'm looking for a software solution which doesn't cost money.

If somebody knows some other kind of solution (non shoutcast solution) which has the same capabilities, please let me know!

These guys have a lot of experience in streaming, they use ICEcast, maybe that helps ?

I found Netsync for Winamp. This application does partly what I want...

In your winamp clients, go to
input
select Nullsoft Audio Decode [in_mp3.dll] and select Configure
In Streaming set all buffers and 0KB and 0%

This will make it a lot better!
