SP3 for Windows XP

It's 4/29, when's it gonna be on their update site? Though it's coming out today.

Re: SP3 for Windows XP

It's delayed: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/...2170&SiteID=17

The final RTM (5512) can still be downloaded from Microsoft servers (Majorgeeks a.o. has a link if you want) and is safe to install for private users (not affected by that newly discovered bug with some business installations).

Re: SP3 for Windows XP

The problem they uncovered will affect only a tiny number of clients, and shouldn't be of concern to most users. I downloaded SP3 early in the day and have installed on two computers already with no ill effects.

Also slipstreamed a copy. So I'm set for a while.

Re: SP3 for Windows XP

I have installed it on three computers with no issues. From what I have read, the bug is connected with a program called Dynamics Retail Management System and is a point of sale application. I doubt many people here would be affected by it.

Re: SP3 for Windows XP

I got my bootup to a bare minimum and just had core services running, it wants system restore running and wanted a normal mode install. Your windows folder will grow by almost a gig, first the back up for the uninstall and then another backup of the install files.

It was pretty damn smart when it extracted because it automatically chose my largest free data partition on a seperate drive.

Slick!

did the slipstream with nlite also and tested on a broken computer yesterday as a clean install

for an old ME computer sure boots fast

An incompatibility with Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (MDRMS) has sidelined the upcoming service pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP and the same compatibility issue exists in the first Vista service pack. Microsoft is creating a filter for their Windows Update site that will check to see whether customers have MDRMS installed before applying the service pack for either operating system. In the meantime, Microsoft is advising their customers running MDRMS to avoid installing the service packs for either OS until they can come up with a patch.

In today´s news...
Quote:
Users Microsoft's Windows XP will have to wait for the third service pack release.

It says there's a "compatibility issue" between SP3 and Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System - a management programme for small to medium-sized businesses.

It was planning on releasing the update this week after finalising the code last week, until the bug was discovered.

A statement issued by Microsoft read: "In order to make sure customers have the best possible experience, we have decided to delay releasing Windows XP SP3 to Windows Update and Microsoft Download Centre."

The glitch isn't constrained to XP though, with the same compatibility problems also appearing in the first service pack for Vista.

Re: SP3 for Windows XP

Like I believe it if they had that problem wouldn't it stand to reason they would be have a posting on the microsoft download site or technet site imforming us of the problem? Sounds more like squeezing people to Vista so they don't have to put SP3 out....that's my take on it...this fiascle...
