SmartRipper problems: WinXP Pro SP2, latest Smartripper

all right, this is driving me nuts.

i've always used Smartripper as my main ripping tool of choice. I have and will use DVD Decrypter on occasion, but i prefered smart ripper.

i've reinstalled windows and everything on my system many times. this time around, i can't get Smartripper to work right.

I know smartripper uses ASPI, and i have installed ASPI correctly in the past.

this time around, however, i get the following messages while smartripper starts:

ASPI-Adapter availible
try to unlock drive ...
Recieve Key1 from unit
switch to WinIO
test file access....
VIDEO_TS.IFO->Win_IO readable
(fast forward)
VTS_02_0.BUP->Win_IO locked !

my problem is that neither smartripper nor dvddecrypter will read rip this disc!!! more than that, no matter what version of ASPI i put in, SmartRipper always says that i should try to unlock the drive and then switches back to WinIO.

i run the movie in PowerDVD 6 while smart ripper does it's thing, so the disc should be unlocked...as for the drive, i really don't know what to do about that.

SmartRipper was designed to work with ASPI. that's how i want it to work. I have other programs that use ASPI as well, and i haven't tried them yet...hopefully they will work right and this is just an issue with SMartripper

last time i used smart ripper was back around february. here are the changes to my system since that time:

AMD Athlon XP 1700+ -> AMD Athlon XP 2100+
2x 80GB PATA Hard drive -> 1x 80GB PATA, 1x 250GB SATA
added a SATA RAID controller card
Sony DRU-500A -> NEC ND-3500AG
Windows XP Professional SP1 -> Windows XP Professional SP2
Nero 5.5 -> Nero 6.6 Ultra edition
PowerDVD 4 -> PowerDVD 5 -> PowerDVD 6

ASPI Layers tried:
4.60 (forceaspi 1.7)
4.71 (forceaspi 1.8)
4.60 (adaptec)
4.71 (adaptec)
2.0 (nero 6.6)

*EDIT*
on a whim i tried another dvd, and it states that some are Win_IO readable and others are ASPI_IO readable....so maybe it's just the disc i was using?

anyway, help/answer appreciated

thank you
