I have a Lite-on slimtype sosw - 852s dvd drive in my acer travelmate 4000 notebook.

I have been having all kinds of problems with it lately as it wouldnt read music cd's or dvd's when I inserted them.

I read up on the probem a bit and figured that my drive was pooched, then yesterday, kinda by accident, I restarted my computer with a dvd in it and when the computer started back up, it recognized that there was a dvd in it and it played.

So now I have been playing with this machine non-stop trying to figure out what the heck is wrong, but I give up !

Hopefully someone out there can help me out before I go and buy a new drive.

When the computer is on and I insert a dvd or an audio cd, the computer doesnt even reconize it ! Even when I open "my computer" icon, it just says that the drive is empty. Like I said, when I restarted the computer with the disk in it, it recognized it. When i ejected the disk however, the computer says that the disc is still in it.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY MACHINE ?????

It might be time to replace your drive, and you could also have an out of date driver.
