.pps File Error

I recently got an e-mail that was a .ppf file type, would not open, I went into the File Folder control, and found the program associated with it "Windows power viewpoint" this is supposedly the right program, but does'nt work, any ideas, or is there a different program I can use to work with this file?

Re: .pps File Error

I suggest to NEVER open attachments from an unknown receiver. Most of times these are virus, trojan or other malware softwares.

I suggest to run a complete antivirus scan of your computer

Re: .pps File Error

.pps files can be opened with Microsoft PowerPoint (part of Microsoft Office) or with Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer (freeware).

But be careful of opening strange files that are sent to you - if it's from an unknown source, don't open it. If it's from someone you know, check first that they actually sent it to you (and that it isn't someone else faking their address or a virus/work that infected their computer).

That is the program associated with it, downloaded and re-installed 3X, still don't open.

Re: .pps File Error

I suggest you install PowerPoint Viewer, even if you have MS Office PPoint installed, it loads much faster. Then, go in Folder Options-File Types and change the program associated with pps & ppt extentions to PPViewer. As for viruses, your AV program should have an Office plugin, to automatically scan all Office files on opening (NOD32 does), so you should be ok. This is my setup, and I never had a problem in 8 years!

There are two main possibilities: or the file was faulty for some reason (then ask your daughter to create it again and send another copy of the file) or she has a virus in her computer that is sending copies of the virus to all her contacts (it's a very efficient way to spread viruses in the net )
