NortonGhost DVD write protection?

A few years ago I used Norton Ghost and I created an image that spanned four DVD+RWs (Mitsumi). The backup has now become long obsolete and I would like to use the DVD+RWs for other purposes (mainly backup with Acronis). However, with at least one of the disks there are major problems deleting the image file or re-formatting. I have tried Roxio, Nero, Alcohol as well as related Linux utilities all giving me different error messages. Essentially, it is an "unknown" error that prevents information to be written to the disc.

Is this something related to the way Norton Ghost is protecting an image file or is this a problem with the disc?
Are there any diagnostic utilities or other tools that can be used to "fix" this DVD+RW?

Re: NortonGhost DVD write protection?

Most likely this is standard RW disc failure. Best to just toss the disc(s) out, but you can try a physical erase, which is to lay the disc face-up in direct sunlight for about 30 min.

Wouldn't that warp the media rendering it useless????

Re: NortonGhost DVD write protection?

You could trash the disc in the bin, that would be easier & faster.

Try a fullformat with Imgburn.

Thanks, I can't find format on the menu ... is that the same as erase -> full?
