Re: norton removal

Once uninstalled just use search to find folders associated with norton and delete them, that's what I do when I remove any programme. It seems this is a common problem with uninstallers for some reason.

Re: norton removal

even that tool does not rid all trash left behind. ur best bet is to search ur pc & registry for any symantec entry, & delete it.

Re: norton removal

G'day
I agree
with petremure. Click on Start> run type regedit click OK. Open edit and click on find or control F. Type Symantec or the name of the program you want to kill. Press F3 key or click on find next. Delete the highlighted entry (make sure it is Symantec) before deleting. Press F3 again and repeat the cycle until you got them all. Compress the registry tree on the left panel and do it again. Close the registry and do a search for any Symantecor Norton folder and delete files. If you get a message saying cannot delete XXXX. Restart PC and try again. It is the only way. Or at least a good way to do it. Be very careful not to delete the wrong entries. It is a good idea to back up the registry before doing any editing. When you are the reg editor go to file and click on export. Give the file a name and save it in a folder you remember.
Good luck
John

Re: norton removal

if your buddy isn't good with computers (you said it's his first comp) I'd stick to the program.

the posters that suggest using regedit are absolutely right, but if you do something incorrectly, you could be REALLY screwed. even if that automatic program is not a total fix in all cases, it's better than nothing and doesn't run the risk of him rendering his computer unuseable.
