| Nod32??? Has anyone here tried it?? I have come to my senses recently, as norton internet security 2006 was bugging the crap outta me. I hardly ever go onto dodgy (not porn) sites, never open attatchments, and have all my important files etc backed up onto my external hdd. I want a anti virus/firewall option in a software app, that doesnt hog my system resources or interfere with programs that i install. (skip this if u cant be bothered) [extra info] One such program was F.E.A.R. a computer game with starforce protection on it. I installed it the first time, was playing fine till it started telling me it couldnt find the original cd. So i sent the tech support an email and they told me to tun off the stuff from startup using msconfig, and update to the latest graphics drivers. I already had 91.31 drivers for my 2 7900gt's, but for some reason just this morning i couldnt adjust the settings on it, and it was giving me a run.dl error message and closing my 7900gt settings control panel. So i uninstalled the drivers, rebooted then reinstalled again from fresh. I turned my internet off when i restarted, and tried to run the cd, and now the game works fine. (Norton wasnt running since the restart). I also found that my outlook 2007 beta 2 started up faster. [extra info] I heard nod 32 was very good. I will have a go with the trial version, but i would like some feedback on if its good at stopping trojans, and protecting your computer without it hogging the resources. I mean stopping trojans as in when you might open a link on a website and oops its given u a trojan. Now norton could stop it and come up with a message saying 1 virus found, and deleted. Can Nod32 do this>???

| Re: Nod32??? Nod32 and me just couldn't get along, i found it slowed the system down a lot. I now use Kaspersky and find it works very well and is updated about every 4 hours with the latest virus definitions.

| Re: Nod32??? My friend had big problems with Nod32. Something about updating it's database, I don't know. But I know that his system hanged every once in a while because of Nod. Why not Kaspersky Anti-Virus? I've never had any problems with it. But you must use some other software beside Kaspersky (anti adware, or something like that). Also, Kaspersky Anti-Hacker is an excelent firewall.

| Re: Nod32??? I'll agree that kaspersky is the best around. Its one of the most if not the most thorough of the av's that i have used. However i never was able to get it to run on my system properly. So i went with nod 32. I have never had any problems with it at all. I do alot of gaming and it has never interfered or slowed my system down. It has according to a couple sites( dont have them off the top of my head) that i viewed one of the lowest system footprints or any av. I have also done alot of testing on my own with all of the most popular av's out. These are not with the eicar test, these are with actual hardened viruses (and new variants of such). Dont think im crazy or anything ive got an older test machine that i use just for these purposes (and im not a virus writer, im just a finatic and i like to know for certain that i have the best that i can get). In my tests Kaspersky always did the best, however Nod 32 came in a close second most of the time. I would recommend Nod 32 to anyone. It has never let me down. I will try to find the test results page comparing the top av's including Nod32 and Kaspersky. |

From July 2006 issue of PC World - a review of the popular all-in-one security suites: http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/artic...17,pg,1,00.asp Accompanying the review is a chart of top 10 security suites: http://find.pcworld.com/53488 I heard AVG Anti-Virus is good too. It also has a free version. |

| Re: Nod32??? NOD32 is easily the best AV i tried... i definately recommend it to anyone looking for a quality AV program with low system resources usage. p.s. for those who are having problems with NOD32 it's probably some sorta of software conflict im guessing with other apps that are running cause it works great on both the pc's i used it on. i wont be switching to any other AV anytime soon... plus NOD32 has great speed in system scanning to. |

| Re: Nod32??? I have been using NOD32 for 18 months now, the only problem I had was a known conflict with Azureus (java based bittorrent program, caused high CPU/memory usage), but there is a workaround. It is updated frequently, scans lightning fast, compared to other AV programs I have tried, and has no noticable impact on system performace. Impact when scanning is minimal, and I am running an Athlon XP 1900+. I also find its interface advanced, yet quite user friendly.

| Re: Nod32??? Another vote for NOD32. It is simply the best. But don't take my word for it, the tests have indicated that this is so...... http://www.av-comparatives.org/ I have had absolutely no issues with NOD32. Currently using version 2.51.28 It's fast, extremely configurable, very low on resources and very few false positives. The definitions are updated daily, as soon as any new threats are discovered. Not just excellent virus protection but also surprisingly superb spyware protection. The two worst rated are AVG Professional and Norton. If you seek a good Anti-Trojan, then Ewido Security Suite has been rated heads and shoulders above the competitors..... http://www.av-comparatives.org/seite...report2006.pdf

| Re: Nod32??? If you were to solicit opinions based on the overall package then I guess those reviews would have lots of validity. If you were to review based exclusively on performance and effectiveness, then that's quite another story. The stats are very convincing. The numbers don't lie. It's always great to have choices, but personally performance does it for me. It's kind of odd that the review mentions that the scan time for an 80 GB hard drive with NOD32 being 24 minutes. The scan time for both my 120 GB and my 200 GB hard drives (in-depth scan) is 16 minutes with NOD32 v2.51.28 It would have been nice it the version numbers of the reviewed software were disclosed. It's like some optical drive reviews I see on other sites where there is no mention of the firmware.

People must understand that there will be no one Antivirus program that will protect you from everything. This is why one must scan there system every once in awhile will another Antivirus program. This goes the same for Spyware. ![]() | |

| Re: Nod32??? Tried out Nod32 after reading a lot of reviews and recommendations of it being #1 when picking up Viruses. I must say it was 1 impressive AV, very fast, very very light on system resources. Having AMON On (Realtime File Monitor) and even doing manual scans, you hardly notice it working in the background if at all. I also use Karsperky JUST to make sure nothing is missed... |
