| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans It depends on how you saved the penny. If you saved the penny, but it now takes you alot more time to do something, or perhaps it doesn't do it as good, it's not really saved. I work 5 days a week which takes upto 12hrs of my day & weekends are busy. My time is precious. Organising files and having a program hang or kill itself for no reason is annoying. Sometimes something is worth paying for, just for the peace of mind. I couldn't ever convince myself to pay for Roxio software, when it's always been so bad, and nero is boringly trustworthy,

| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans How much do you make an hour? The way I always look at it is this: - If I make $20 an hour, and it takes me an hour extra to do something, I could have spent $20 to get that something done, and then worked an extra hour. That's the "break even point". So if, over the course of time, dozens of extra hours are spent because I didn't buy a $50 program, I'm way behind. Same thing with car repairs - I do my own, but if a particular task would take me 20 hours ($400 at my hypothetical $20/hr. pay rate) and I could take it to a garage and get it done in two hours at $85 an hour ($190 total)... well, why waste the entire weekend? |

| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans I think it depends on what u want. I am not a zelot for any software. I dont think anyone can get rich by spending on software. I buy whats needed and freely use whats freely given. FREEDOM counts! |

| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans Data files Nero write well (text, mp3, DivX video...), but it not for preference for many any functions... Compressing sound from Wave format to mp3 - LAME is better Nero write Video CD don't well For work with sound better to use a professional soft: WaveLab 5, Sonic Foundry 8, CoolEditPro 2... To copy audio track to hard I use Exact Audio Copy, not Nero But then Nero have many functions for tests CD/DVDfor instance... The same words may say about WinOnCD =) IMHO

| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans Nero. "Boringly efficient" is absolutely right, it does what I ask of it. Haven't used EZCD since oooh...v3.5 or something. LOL @ Gurm, love the description. ![]()

{End off topic} | |

| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans Interesting thread. I had and used Roxio from day one, for really basic CD Burning and backup. Now that I want to copy movie DVD's, most tell me to try Nero (I have a copy and have yet to install it yet)(I think it is version 7.0.5.4) and looks like I might have to uninstall Roxio (or can I have both installed?) and try Nero. |

| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans Notice the title .. Nero Vs Roxio. Not recommended. Some people have posted that you can have both, but the experience of the majority suggests you are asking for trouble to install roxio at the same time as nero. The majority of issues are with the older versions of Roxio though. The versions upto (and some say including) Version 5 somehow manage to ensure other CDRW/DVDRW software died a hideous death ![]()

| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans Right now I have Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 installed, and a newer version of Nero as stated above not installed. I plan on using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink (unless someone tells me a different and better way to copy DVD's. |

| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans Shrink & Decryptor is likely the easiest ![]() Shrink will also burn (using the Nero Engine or decryptor) direct to the DVD (not on the fly though ) , if ya want ![]()

| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans I prefer Nero. I tried the previous Roxio and couldn't get it to work correctly. I have Nero 6 and 7, I use Nero to capture video, burn music CD and burn DVD's. While they are not perfect, they work, most of the time. |

| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans I use nero cause I tried to burn a dvd in roxio 7.5 and it burned ok but couldn't watch the movie on the pc nor the stand alone player. As for the future it's hard to say with nero7 being like roxio in my opinion......I might have to check into something different. If Nero 7 was as small and resource free as Nero 6.0.1.18 or whatever I definatly would stay with nero however there are alot of things you can do with roxio that you can't with nero so mayby it's a good thing they are competing. I might have to look into the ashampoo products to see about that. |

| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans i'd say nero does wonders but when it comes to video compiling its horrible. maybe its just how i set it up but idk. i'd say roxio is better cause its fast and simple hands down |
