Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans Which do you prefer and why? I'm partial to Nero as it provides more flexibility and customization to do what I want it to do. However, I've seen the latest Roxio Media Creator 7.5 and I'm impressed. So I'm asking if you have a preference... ~

| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans I prefer Nero..hmm don't really know why...I think its just that I'm used to it and it has every feature one expects in a CD writing software.

Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans Nero doesen't really do anything beter than other methods (sometimes worse), but it does everything beter than other methods. Did that sound a little confusing or contradictory? What I mean is, Take any program that tries to do everything that nero does, encoding, transcoding, compressing, and just about every common kind of burning imaginable. Nero is beter (within the same cost bracket). Take any individual task that nero does, and it can probably be done beter by a half dozen specialized programs. Nero is the best does everything program out thier. As far as roxio, I have not used recent versions, but compared to older versions of roxio that I have used, refer to my previous statments, "nero is the best does everything program out thier"..... I use nero for everything first, unless the results are not good enough, or it cannot do it right, then I go to other software. I have older versions of roxio, that are not even on my computer, because with nero on there, they are worthless. Like I said though, I have not used roxio in a while and have not used the latest versions.

Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans I use both Nero & Roxio, really only one function in either. Nero I prefer for burning DVD movie files & Roxio I find is much better for Audio/MP3 CD creation & labelling these. That's really all I use them for , not bothering with all the other functions they provide.

Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans I have mostly used nero for data and video. In all honesty, I havent done much mp3 recentlly, but I always used mp3 maker gold (paid 40$ on sale at best buy if I recall right). In all honesty, you should have several programs in your arsenal, to attack the chore of proper burning. Check out the free ones. Thier are so many good free tools. For an all in one, I don't think you can beat nero, but thats just my opinion.....nero is worth having, butit's just one tool.

Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans Over my various writers, I've used: 1. Easy CD Creator 4.x 2. Nero 5.5 3. WinoCD 5 4. Nero 6.x Starting with Easy CD Creator, I got used to the "compilation bottom" layout, so I always run Nero in the same layout (I hate the side by side layout). Out of all of them, I preferred WinOnCD's "timeline" method of laying down audio effects, as you could layer a variety of effects without editing and resaving the audio file. Picked up a cheap WinonCD 6 a while back, but not sure if it's safe with XP SP2, otherwise I'd probably be using that.

Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans *ahem* Nero is good software built on a foundation of good software. While not the BEST in any single category, it's the best all-around. Roxio is a dog turd built on a foundation of bull turds. The last version of EZ *** Creator that didn't bite the wax tadpole... was Adaptec's version 3.x, everything since then has sucked more and more. First Adaptec butchered it in version 4, then failed to fix it in version 5. Then they sold version 5 to Roxio, who made it even WORSE. Version 6 was a gigantic festering boil on the collective arses of CD burning folk everywhere. Version 7 I've heard is "better", but honestly that's like saying that the latest Creative drivers are "better". Better than what?

Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans My list was in order of use, BTW, not in order of preference... I guess I'd describe Nero 5.5 as "boringly efficient" - no features to like or dislike, and no real vices, once the more logical layout was applied. The WinOnCD that Roxio got from CeQuadrat, was tons better than the Easy CD Creator they got from Adaptec - and now the whole lot has gone to Sonic ... bye bye Roxio, you won't be missed, since you never came up with an original version of anything!

| Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans It's not really a competition. I have to agree with Gurm's appraisal of EZCD. The CD/DVD Write speed should never be stored under the "Advanced" tab. /me falls off my chair laughing. Nero is a boringly efficient all-rounder. But definately, you need specialist software to do extra things that nero can't quite manage.

Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans Got nero with my first burner & have used it ever since. It does what I want it to do and it has no stability problems, plus Roxio doesn't seem to have any significant improvements, so I'm sticking with that.

Re: Nero vs Roxio...battle of the titans I am not cheep just thrifty. A penny saved is a penny earned. at least Ben Franklin said so.Why pay for software when the free stuff works. The only software that is worth paying for is a little red fox that does its job verry well.
