Suddenly, after years of using TDK rewritable DVD's, my drive is no longer able to burn to them.

I just bought 5 new TDK x4 DVD+RW rewritables and I can use none of them. Also the drive gives same error with some Verbatim DVD-RW rewritables but not CD rewritables and not with DVD non-rewritables!

So the problem seems to be with rewritables only, but only certain ones.

Is it possible that my 8-month old drive is tired or something?

I have read all the other threads on this forum regarding this error but none have addressed this particular problem.

My DMA is set to on.

Should I buy another drive?

more than likely..yes..i had a plextor 708 in 2003 and a few months later the cdrw burn functon died...i got it replaced and it works fine now except...i don't burn cdrw's to be safe...i use an actual cd burner drive i have.....all-in-one drives are bound to have issues...lucky these dvd burners are cheap these days

Can you actually buy DVD-only drives for PC's now? Last time I looked they were all dual CD/DVD.

What PC DVD drive would you recommend for highest compatibility playback on standalone (for tv) DVD machines?

u can buy regular cd(rw) burners....some dvd drives have good cd\dvd compatibility...i use an reg. cd burner(5 years old) but i use a nec dvd burner to do some also.....just depends..plextor has always had cd issues when it comes to burning....

a lite-on160/165 or a pioneer to a good solid job....probably be better off just buying an all-in-one...as long as its good solid drive

they are the latest(160/165) and greatest for sure...the new pioneer 112 comes out real soon but the lite-on is a sure winner
