More XP Nightmares I've been checking out the discussions on XP and I've got a problem that seems a bit unique. Whenever I put a DVD disc in my dvdrw drive, the drive locks up and that application freezes. I can't use task manager to end the application or shut down. This is only DVDs and just that drive. CDs, dvdRs work fine. I can burn discs with no problem. I've tried reinstalling all drives, drivers, cables and nothing works Up until last week it worked but now it's driving me crazy.

| Re: More XP Nightmares What application is that freezes? The one that was opened before inserting the DVD? Or the one that automatically is started upon inserting a DVD?

Re: More XP Nightmares It seems like the drive itself freezes. Usually the application prompt window would pop up but that doesn't even happen. Under My Computer it shows the disc in the drive but I can't access it to do anything with it. Something else weird. If the disc is in the drive when windows starts, I can access the disc info with Nero Toolkit. I can then use a third party program such as power dvd to watch it but again any attempt to use media player freezes everything up. I've tried uninstalling media player but when I try to reinstall it says that the most up to date version is already on my machine.

Re: More XP Nightmares Say, I've got a Sony VAIO which I've had nothing but problems in trying to view and record DVD's. As I've only just now read your post and read about on the Sony settlement, and as I'm unaware if I ever used any of the Sony CD's but likely I have. Also I have used the Sony music application (SonicStage) last year as well as downloaded about 20 songs using the Sony CONNECT software. As such, I'm pretty confident I stand a great chance at possibly resolving my DVD recording and player issues (assuming I have been affected by the aspects of XCP and/or MediaMax). So did you run across any means of positively determining that you had XCP software on you OS and moreover (as I read it is very difficult to remove) how did you get rid of it so your DVD issues disapeared?

Re: More XP Nightmares I started Boycotting Sony a long time ago. It seems that after earning a great reputation for products and warranties it developed a business plan to manufacture products that would break down after a short time and to go from a one year warranty to a 90 day warranty. they are now dedicated to controlling exactly how and when you can watch/listen to media and extracting the maximum amount of money from your wallet while giving the smallest return possible. Look at their recent "copy protection" scams and you get the idea that there are no ethics and no cunsumer loyalty, only maxing out there bottom line. Best way to deal with them is to not buy any pf their products at all, and each time you buy a competitors product, email and SONY and inform them of that, and why.
