LG GSA-4120B firmware upgrade in Linux ?

I have a Linux PC (and not windows PC at all), Mandriva 2006, and an LG GSA-4120B. This is the only removable drive in the computer. It suddenly stopped recognizing any and all media some time ago.

I have a strong feeling that the firmware got screwed at some point. Both the BIOS and Linux properly recognize the drive, but that's it. It doesn't read any media, and it does not boot a bootable CD (and this is OS independent). The drive has been running happily under linux for almost a year.

I tried to run the LG official firmware upgrade utility under WINE, but the .exe dies right after starting to load. Any ideas on what to do ? Is it possible to reset the original firmware by setting the jumpers in some particular way ? Otherwise, is there any generic firmware that I could try ? I am open to try anything, the drive is unusable anyways.

Many many thanks

Re: LG GSA-4120B firmware upgrade in Linux ?

All right, for the time being I just bought another drive, the NEC 3550A. It's been working fine in Linux so far out of the box. And I can flash its firmwares using binflash ( http://binflash.cdfreaks.com/ )

I am keeping the GSA-4120B connected though, and I'll try to flash it whenever wine let's me run the crappy fimrware utility.
