HP cd-writer plus 8200 help needed

My Brother-in-law recently installed a 2nd hand Hp cd-writer plus 8200 on my computer and told me I just needed to download the software from the Hp website to get it to work. I've downloaded the Cd-writer USB driver, RecordNow CD Mastering software and the HP DLA software from the site, which is everything they had. Now my CD-Rom drive won't read any CD's, music or otherwise. Is there something I missed or need to do to get this thing working again? Any help appreciated on this.

Re: HP cd-writer plus 8200 help needed

Hi . I just bought a hp cd-writer 8200 series. When I tried to install the driver for it on the accompanying disc , my windows XP shut down the driver -saying it could cause the system to become unstable. however the cd-writer plays discs. However it WON'T write CDs. It gets to 99% on windows media player and just freezes and there's nothing on the cd. On other cd writing programs it does the same. This is so frustrating! Can anybody help , please?
xx

Re: HP cd-writer plus 8200 help needed

Hello, I have a 8200 also. I've been writing CDs to it for years with an older version of Nero without a problem (although it's very fickle about underburn). Recently, I bought a new DVD recorder which came with a new version of Nero, which wouldn't work with the HP for some reason (doesn't surprise me, since the HP is probably 6 years old now). Anyway, I just use the native XP burning capacity to burn data files on the 8200, which seems to work well. I've only burned a half-dozen disks, but I've yet to have a problem. No specific driver installed for it, I think, just the normal XP cdrom drivers.

On the other hand, my new DVD burner is a bit more troublesome, having intermittant problems, but I've created my own thread for that (for which no one seems to be able to help me - sniff sniff). Good luck.
