How to Use Free Software to Remove Spywares

How do you deal with spyware and virus usually? Manually or use Anti-virus tool? Do you have registered Anti-virus and Anti-spyware Software? If not, please pay attention to the following ones, they are the true free Anti-virus and Anti-spyware Software!!!

1. Avast!4 Home Edition
The first one I want to recommend is Avast!4 Home Edition, which is world famous anti-virus software. The developer of Avast is ALWIL Software. Avast Home Edition even can be compared with Norton 32. The scanner installed just under 40MB and six running processes to our Windows XP Pentium 4 test system, and still well suited for older PCs or those with limited system resources. It includes full virus protection in an easy to use interface with free automatic update. The guard also takes so little memory that you almost can not feel it, and, moreover the monitoring ability is also well.
If you are home users and used for non-commercial purpose, you can enjoy it for free. But you need to register as their members every year.

2. Ad-Aware SE Personal
In recent years, Anti-spyware and Anti-Trojan software have become the necessary tools to make up the shortage of anti-virus software. AD-aware is famous anti-spyware software from Germany. With the issuance of Ad-Aware SE Personal edition, Lavasoft takes the step against spyware to higher level.
Ad-Aware Personal edition is free for non-commercial use. With brand new Code Sequence Identification (CSI) technology, you will be protected from known content such as Trojans, Dialers, Malware, Browser hijackers, and tracking components. To further protect you, Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition also has the capability to scan and list Alternate Data Streams (ADS) in NTFS enabled volumes.

3. Antiy Ghostbusters
Just like AD-aware, Antiy Ghostbusters is also a powerful anti-Trojan&Spyware product developed by Antiy Labs, which also provides a firewall named AGuard.
Antiy Ghostbusters gives real-time anti-spyware protection against more than 170,000 kinds of Spyware, Trojans, keyloggers, backdoors, worms, hack tools. Adopting original VCS technology, it can capture most of unknown malware threats. Extended memory scanning now scans all modules loaded in a process. Extended cookies scanning smartly detect active cases. It also can be used with anti-virus software together without compatible problem.
At present, Antiy Labs released full functional version of Antiy Ghostbusters 5.1.4, so the trial users also can free scan&remove spywares and update the database without any limitation.

4. Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Classic
Just like Germany in our eyes, AntiVir is called”German red umbrella”, which means it doesn’t have finery but provides high quality functions. It comes from H+BEDV which is a security software company with a long history.
Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Classic reliably protects private computer against dangerous viruses, worms, Trojans and costly dialers for free. The product combines first-class detection rates and ease of use with a top performance that protects your computer safely and hardly burdens older PCs.
It also has a commercial version, so don’t worry about the viral code. You can get the latest viral code only if you keep updating online. As quickly as the startup and update speed that many similar software can not compare with it.

AntiVir Personal Edition Classic Download: http://www.free-av.com/down/windows/antivir_workstation_win7u_en_h.exe
5. AVG Anti-Virus
At last, I want to share AVG Anti-Virus with you. It is a free anti-virus tool developed by GRISOFT for home users. The program once received the VB100% Award by independent malware advisor, Virus Bulletin. AVG Anti-Virus System spots programs that behave like viruses, locks them up, and puts them in isolation--even if no one's issued an all-points bulletin and corrective code.
It beats the high priced top brand names out there, hands down and is free. The most important is it really does the business, easy to configure and does not slow your machine down. Compared with the commercial version, the free version only does not have a few unimportant functions and 24 hours service.

Re: How to Use Free Software to Remove Spywares

I second your recommendation of AVG Anti-Virus. Freeware version, trouble-free, doesn't conflict with other programs, has auto-update. I use it on an HP desktop with WinXP SP2, along with Windows Firewall (and a wireless router/firewall). Ad-Aware yes, and Spybot Search and Destroy yes...

Re: How to Use Free Software to Remove Spywares

I use McAfee and with rebate promotions, I haven't paid for it in more than 5 years. It is also possible to use Norton without paying. Rebates are not for everyone, there are mailing costs, initial purchase cost and it can also be frustrating. For any competitive upgrade rebates where you don't have an original disc, you can usually find an OEM version for $5 with free shipping. After that, you're a repeat customer.

Surplus Computers often offers these kinds of deals (they don't have it now) but you need to check at least weekly.

Hey, if you're spendng at least $15 (USD) for a new release movie, this isn't a bad way to go.

Re: How to Use Free Software to Remove Spywares

ccleaner is great and after running gets most things but I also use some of the one above.
I always install ccleaner on anyones computer that I work on and have it run at startup since most people do not know enough to keep there computer cleaned. A good bath with ccleaner at startup keeps me from having to fix problems later.

Re: How to Use Free Software to Remove Spywares

I use Spybot, it's free and updates weekly or more. (I use manual update)
http://www.safer-networking.org/

It always detects most spyware and has option to remove it.
I also use AVG free.
I also use Ad-Aware, but Ad-Aware doesn't seem to detect anything anymore on this machine. Ad-Aware hasn't detected any malicious stuff in about a year, and I always update it. I think Spybot gets them first and Ad-Aware has nothing to detect.

Re: How to Use Free Software to Remove Spywares

OVERKILL...but this is my set-up:
Zone Alarm with high security settings.
AVG is on, and set to scan automatically everyday
Also
I run ccleaner...everyday.
Then scan with Ad-Aware...almost everyday
Then...only sometimes...Spybot...normally finds nothing.
Also
Testing Trend Micro antispyware 3.0 running at the same time as everything above.
No conflicts or problems so far.

This is a nice program and I use it a lot too. However it is worth pointing out that it isn't an anti-virus or anti-spyware program, but a registry cleaner, uninstaller and optimiser. No-one should expect it to do anything other than that.

Re: How to Use Free Software to Remove Spywares

I use SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition and Spyware Terminator, 2 of the newest programs out there and both free. In my opinion, together they are better than Ad Aware. And if you have Windows XP, Spyware Terminator also comes with awesome virus protection. I posted the links in the "Free Downloads......Your welcome :-)" thread above.
