Ghost 8.0

Greetings,

I am a newbie to this forum, please be gentle

I am attempting to image an HP DC7700u box running Windows XP.

I receive the following error messae at about 25% of the imaging process:

Span Volume [2] Done 1660

Symantec Ghost needs to open the next part of the image. Please either insert the next disk and choose ok, or choose browse to select the next part of the image.

I have received this message let's say on about 2 out of 10 PCs. Initially I thought it may be the DVDROM but the other 8 boxes image just fine.

Can anyone help me find a solution to this problem??

Thanks in advance.

Re: Ghost 8.0

Are you trying to image to a hard drive folder or a CD? You may need to insert another blank CD if imaging to a CD. This happened once or twice using Ghost 2003 for me while creating image to a hard drive folder, and just selecting OK without inserting a disk or browsing worked for my instances. It may work or not for your case, but it won't hurt to try.

Re: Ghost 8.0

What size partition or drive are you trying to image, and will it fit on 1 DVD? You likely need to insert another blank DVD if image will be larger than 4.7 GB if using DVD5 media. If Ghost 8 is similar to my Ghost 2003 you'll also need to click "Options" before beginning image creation and check the "Span" option if image requires more than 1 disk. Another simpler alternative IMO is to create the image to a hard drive folder that's not on the 1 being imaged if you have another drive/partition besides the 1 being imaged.

The image fits on one DVD. It images other DC7700s just fine. It's like a sporadic issue, some of the desktops take the image fine. Others dont. there is no GUI for Ghost. You just pop in the DVD hit enter a couple times and it images the desktop computer.

Re: Ghost 8.0

IIRC Ghost (v.8 or 2003) will span image if the total image size is bigger then 2GB* (for DVD's, on CD's it will be smaller ofcourse).

When asked about location of your "next image", point it to a file (*.GHS I think) on disc image is located on.

* Think this limitation is due to max DOS file size.

Re: Ghost 8.0

You say there is no GUI for Ghost which indicates you're running it from Windows. Have you tried running Ghost "Interactively" under "Advanced" options which is how I always run Ghost?
