| Firmware In XP???? I upgraded my os to Windows XP with a fresh install, and I can't find how to check for firmware. Did they get rid of firmware in XP?

| Use System Information under Accessories > System Tools. Then go to Components - and then CD-ROM, and there will be an entry for each CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, etc. Look at the row called "PNP Device ID" and you should see something like this: IDE\CDROMLITE-ON_LTR-24102B______________________5S57____\blahblahblahblahblah. In this case, 5S57 is the firmware version.

| You have to go to the website of the manufacturer of your CD-RW and see if they have any updated firmware to download. Another comprehensive site is here: http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/ The instructions for upgrading the firmware should come with the upgrade. Normally you will run an executable from Windows, or boot to a DOS prompt and run the update then.
