FADE is oooooooooooooooooold man and it wasn't very effective "in it's day".
It was a simple serialcheck and different checks in the exe... But don't worry about that, it isn't a CD-copy protection really. Codemasters usually used Safedisc...

FADE is one of the coolest copy protections i have ever met.

You can play the game , yet you will miss key items to get further in the game. Sounds like shareware to me. Brilliant protection.

Fade to DVD. Seems they've sharpened it up a little.

Hmm...I did find it strange that I found out about it on a recent news article and some of those links I posted seemed a little dated.

Turns out it it was the more recent DVD one you're talking about that I was talking about. Sorry for the confusion.
