CD Copies

First, thanks for a great site, and a super pool of informational folks. I have burned a few games using CloneCD, great program, sometimes I use my original cd, sometimes I use the copy, when I go to online Multiplayer gaming. I am hearing that with the "newer" games, like Diablo2, and Nascar2002, the host server can detect a "copied" cd, and can boot, ban, and send a letter of warning to the person who is using a "copied" cd.

Is it really possible, for a server host to detect or not detect the license, or code key number of cd copied from the original ? Is this in the same category as the "Warning" at the beginning of a VCR tape, or is the FBI coming to kick in my door ?

Most online key protection is only used to stop you playing online.... they would have too big a task to track everyone and no time to for tackling bigger crimes

And a Cloned cd should be "identical" to the original so as long as you own the original and no other players uses your serial code there should be no problem.

But if two players using the same serial code (Which is illegal) enters an online game, that serial code will probably be banned from online playing.

So as long as only you use the games and not copies them to friends and such, there should be no problems with using you backups.
