Burn avi movie to dvd r

I have an avi movie file and I want to burn it on to a DVD r so I can watch it through a DVD player. Please could you recommend software that can do this for me?

Good proggy's recommended by bb, for avi>DVD that's what I'd use.....However if your player supports avi, Xvid/DivX, then just burn avi to DVDr with IMGBurn, no conversion needed.....Good luck!

There are tools that will do the above for free,
Super, MediaCoder, Quick Media converter, just to name a few....
