Re: Brand New installation of XP Pro SP2 not booting..

I Ran the Bootable Cd you told me to run but all it did was Test the HD.. then I could Set all something to zeros... (formatting I assume)... and thats about it..

I tested HD.. no errors...

I set the HD to zeros... which took about 1 hour and 20 minutes... and then what??? the only option left was exit and restart....

the XP CD still didnt boot after that... I tried using Fdisk but it isnt working...

I copied the XP CD to a new blank CD and it still doesnt work... Ive tried having CD as first prio... Ive tried having CD as ONLY boot device...

still... doesnt boot.... If I use win 98 boot floppy it says that It cant run the stup from DOS...

well win xp cd has several tools to fix the hdd drives partitioning and mbr issues and I have never encountered any hdd software issues that cannot be fixed with XP utilities , (not that I am praising MS)

As every one here agrees your only issue is with the Win Xp cd
When u said u copy the cd did u mean copy the contents or full mirror copy ?
Can u try to boot this cd on another rig?

Mate...

Go into BIOS and if its set to boot from CD ROM... press enter and scroll down the list till you see the DVD ROM device which is installed on your PC.(eg.. LG DVD RAM or Pioneer DVD etc..) Select that as the first boot and try it again..

The BIOS should state the set to boot as a DVD device.. Not cd rom..

depends of the bios it can say 4 types :
1 cdrom
2 dvd./cd
3 optical disk
4 the actual name of your optical disk

If u find any of the four and set it should suffice

Unless you havent noticed whatever he's using its not an original disc...
"1. FD 1.44MB System Type-(00)" is usually floppy emulation used by Nero Burning Rom.
