CD-R media don't matter most of the time. These days even cheap CMC ones are getting better in quality. The only time I can think where the dye (as in color) matters is when you are burning audio for a CD player that has problems recognizing burnt audio CDs and also for vital data storage (which most of us don't care about). So I say just buy the cheapest 80min CD near you, don't buy too much though, burn a disc, then run it with Nero's CD Speed's Scandisc to see if all the data sectors were burnt rite, as in not damaged or unreadable sectors. You can read the sticky thread for another forum: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....threadid=39120 Or just go to the CD-R(W) Forum, and find more detailed answers there: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....threadid=39120 Get Nero CD Speed 0.85B here, if you don't have Nero: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroCDSpeed_085e.zip Hope this helps, DFourthHorseman

I mean the advertized write speed don't matter. And these days, brand doesn't even matter too much, as cheap CMC can burn at 24x/32x, no problem. The only way to tell is to buy some and try em out, maybe read some reviews or feedbacks on it before that, but that's bout it. And you can use any CD-R media to backup PS1 games.

What matters is whether or not your data is readable. When writing my data discs I check every one with CDSpeed2000 CD Quality test from the Extra menu. It is part of Nero in the Start Menu under Nero Toolkit or from the author. The quality test is not the same as simply compare verifying files. Verifying files does not tell to what extent CRC is covering for damaged sectors that poor quality blanks will have. When you start testing with CDSpeed 2000 you will see how well different brands and batches of media perform. I generally write my good disks at 8x or less and copies I don't care about at any speed up to 16x.
