Toshiba DVD burner and weak sectors - Club CDFreaks

A Toshiba DVD burner passed my weak sector test. It even wrote patterns 01B9, 7AB9 and 7C12, all of which are not possible with LiteOns.

Why am I appearently the first one to notice that? Can anyone who has the Toshiba 5002 confirm this observation?

Just to make it more clear: This would mean that this DVD burner would actually get 3 sheep in "EFM"...

Yes, that is the mysterious drive. I just realize that I haven't seen any review about it

I hope it doesn't fail with any other weak sectors BTW. Otherwise, my confusion would increase

Sounds like a good drive.. I would review it if I could get it but Toshiba isnt the best company to get drives from.

I am one of admin on firmware page and we managed to get the firmware for this drive.

It is version 1030 and I had a previlege to make it RPC-1. Since I do not have this drive I am looking for someone to test it. I am 100% sure that it works I just need comfirmation.

If anyone of you make a review of this drive you can say that it can be made region free.

I've the Toshiba SD-R 5002 and it didn't passed the 3-sheep test.
The firmware used was 1031

As jok had reported, his 5002 doesn't pass 3-sheep, so probably no other current Toshiba drive is going to pass it either.
