Is there Copy Protection on MS Windows 98 SE or other Windows versions?

Is there Copy Protection on MS Windows 98 SE (full version) or other Windows versions? I am making a safety copy with my legal disks.

I checked with latest Clony XL. It said there was no copy protection. I then did a manual check for read errors and it found some. What is going on here?!

What are the settings I need to use with CloneCD??

How can I check to see if I have a Perfect Copy?? Can I use a program to check this....not just try the disk out?

There is not any copy protection on MS Win 9x, NT, 2K, XP or Office products.

one of my IT friends was trying to make a copy of Office and wasn't able to make a working copy. He called a tech and the tech told him to use CloneCD and everything worked then. I think the software he used before may have been the problem. What say you?

Yes it was probably his software. I have made back ups of my MS Windows from 95 to xp 2k Server Advanced server ect and have backed up all Office suites from 97 to XP using Ez cd creator 3.x Nero and clone cd.

Now that I think about it, I remeber having trouble burning just the i386 directory, (and sub directories) on the NT 4 cd.

However copying the entire disk was not a problem using EZ cd 3.x .. back in 96.

FutureProof, thanks for the NT info.

I just talked to an IT guy, who said, as far as he knew, only pirate lands like asia had copy protection on these products.

I get different answers, depending on who I talk to.

Hi. I think that the MS OS Products probably, in the main, have dummy, oversize files, illegal TOCs & what not or combinations thereof (yep, and some have none depending where you buy).

Remember, an 80' disc (oversize) used to defeat a casual read & write. Illegal TOCS & the 'file thing' also defeated casual backups.

Fact is that 99% of burners are untroubled by these copy protection attempts and are transparent to the user.

FutureProof, could you please expand on this answer, as it is a shorthand explanation I can't clearly understand.

Also, if Clony XL DOESN'T detect copy protection, what settings should I use in CloneCD?

FP means that these so-called protections (like an illegal TOC and oversized to 80 minutes) aren't real protections anymore since almost all writers can handle these protection. Even with normal programs such as Nero which can easily copy an Illegal TOC.

If ClonyXXL doesn't find a protection use CloneCD with both reading of the Subs enabled. Keep an eye on your Log-window for possible errors.
