I don't have FireBurner but will get it and have a look and prove my guess. I can guess that FireBurner simply writes (fills in/replaces) a pre-gap that is compatible, in other words, the pattern is enough to emulate and fool the protection. On the other hand, I don't think a CDRWin write would work as this app is not sophisticated enough; BUT, CDRWin does what it's meant to do for the user.
