Sim City 4 what protection? ClonyXXL doesnt say

Anyone got the game and figured it out? ClonyXXL (latest) gives me the unrecognized protection. This is for the European release of Sim City 4.

If clony says sd 2.51, it's probably wrong. Since the game has only just been released, it's almost certainly sd 2.8.

Yeah they probably need to Update the ClonyXXL program the latest version is v 2.0.0.1a

and you can get it here :

http://www.bxxxxj.smokers-board.de/

Safedisk 2.8 gives me the same reading (Safedisk 2.51 ) on my older versions of Clony hope some of this helps

hi all
to get best results with clonyxxl if you have Virtual Drive disable it befor scaning . like Virtual CloneDrive or alcohol 120%Virtual Drive.
the only new thing in clony 2.0.0.1a is With the old Securom protection there were 10 skulls displayed instead of 6 skulls. This small error has been fixed in this version.
good luck

hmmmm

to easily find out if its Safe Disk 2.51 or higher just use CLONE CD to read the game Cd and view the log to see if it failed to read around 10,256 sectors then is Safe Disk....I bought Sim City 3000 when it first came out they use Safe Disk 1 so they could still stick with Safe Disk.....

SafeDisc analyser: safedisc 2.8.10
Yates: safedisc 2.8.10
YaPs: safedisc 2.8.10

So my version is Safedisc 2.8.10 U.S. version
the directory I had to scan to get it was c:/program files/maxis/sim city 4/ apps

The US version of Sim City 4 is protected by SD 2.8

I couldn't make a working backup copy of Sim City 4 with CloneCD unless I used the "hide CD-R media" option.

Finally, I ended up using Alcohol 120% which yielded me a perferctly working copy of Sim City 4 that works on my couple computers at home with no emulation whatsoever.

As far as I know, Ollie (the CloneCD lead developer) said that CloneCD will never overcome SD 2.8 due to the EMF issue without actually "cheating" and modifying the read sectors. Apparently, he doesn't want to do that with CloneCD because the app would become more of a "PatchCD". I guess I see his point.

Is this SafeDisc 2.8 something that only the newere burners can copy like the recent Lite-Ons?

Or does the type of burner have nothing to do with it? I have a Acer (now BenQ) 4x external burner that I use with my laptop, any guesses wether this will copy SD2.8? OR should I not even bother with buying Alcohol etc,

Thanks

I suppose that I was so used to using Clone that I didn't feel confident enough about reading the image with Alcohol, but now i have used the program for both and I am very happy with it.
