Usually not necessary but does sometimes help, particularly if your reader is having difficulty in making a good raw image (e.g. WCIII with Lite-on cdrws as readers). Also helps if the copy is in somewhat less than mint condition.

Would having this option checked off run the risk of making a coaster? Would you recommend that I leave this option on all of the time?

If you look at the miscellaneous section of the CloneCD faq , you'll find that olli recommends leaving it off unless you're attempting to copy a copy.

Otherwise, I would only recommend using regenerate data sectors if the cd is damaged (e.g. scratched) or is one of the few cds protected with the new version of securerom new (Warcraft III) and you are having problems getting a working back-up (or a good raw image) without it.

Well, if your CD is less than mint condition, shouldn't you attack some Read Retries?

Personally I don't use the 'Regenerate Data Sectors' option and leave the drive's error skip settings at their default setting. You won't create a coaster when you leave the regenerate data option disabled or enabled when you're reading a good disc. It's only handy, like said, when doing a back-up of a back-up (the back-up disc may be of lower quality) or when doing a Subs read with a Lite-On drive.

How does the use of edc/ecc errorcorrection techniques helps you in reading the subchannels? The subchannels have nothing to do with edc/ecc.

Don't ask me how it works. Just read some of the Lite-On thread regarding copying NeverWinter Nights and Warcraft III. When the regenerate option is not enabled some Lite-On drives will make a coaster when reading the SubChannel Data. Tried it myself and when the option was not enabled my Lite-On LTR-48125W made a coaster. That's why we also created the custom 'Lite-On SecuRom [NEW]' Profile.
