Re: Problem with Rosetta Stone Program

This isn't a CloneCD solution, but it is what I had to go through last week, so here goes.

I was trying to make this work on my copy of the Rosetta Stone language disc for about a week, and after coastering about 7 discs, I tried this and it worked on my Chinese level 1 & 2 combo. Same version as you for the app disc. The language disc says it's a SafeDisc 2/3 using A-ray.

Software:Alcohol 120% 1.9.5.3105, ran with the expert install and renamed the default sys files to something else. Added the DevSupp addon too.

I found on the cdfreaks site and also Alcohol's forums that both my CD writers are known good drives for SafeDisc backups (not my DVD though). Check yours to see if it is on the lists for Safedisc backup capability.

Reader: BTCIDE5224, also have on my system a BTC BCE3212IM, and a Plextor PX-708UF2 External DVD writer on the USB. I kept the 708UF2 off during the backup.

Writer: BTCIDE5224

Settings on the backup: (not sure if these are needed for the copy, or just playback)
Emulation: Ignore Media Type checked
Launch "CD/DVD Manager..." checked
RMPS unchecked
Extra Emulation: BAD Sectors Emulation checked
Sub-Channel.. unchecked
Laserlock...unchecked

In the image making wizard, selected SafeDisc 2/3 and read speed at the top at something like 4X. All else was the same. The ignore bad sectors and Fast skip options were left checked as this is the default for SafeDisc.

I first made an image copy and then burned the disc onto a Memorex black CD-R 48X disc.

The trick to make it work for me was renaming the driver sys files in the expert mode and/or the DevSupp addon. (at least I think so)

Don't fret about the bad sectors during the image making step. Just let it finish.

Re: Problem with Rosetta Stone Program

Hi guys,

I'm a bit of a novice in this field so please bear with me. I'm trying to make a back up of The Rosetta Stone languages but when I make a combo disc i.e. with both levels 1 and 2, the program will only read one of the levels. I feel it is down to the .TRS file make up - I'm not sure whether they have been edited properly.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Problem with Rosetta Stone Program

Hello,

I stumbled upon this post last night and thought I'd contribute. At $200 per each Rosetta Stone CD, I wasn't willing to risk scratching my original discs. So I appreciate Pres-Sean's (#2) detailed steps how to backup the discs. But in my case the language program crashed when I inserted the burned backup CD.

Here are my modifications to Pres-Sean's steps:

1. Install Alcohol 120% with the latest devsupp.exe (2.5.1.1709 as of this writing).

2. Use Alcohol 120% to make an ISO image using the following options:
Datatype: SafeDisc 2/3
[X] Skip reading erros
[X] Fast skip error blocks

Ignore "bad sector" error messages. Wait approximately 30 minutes, depending on your processor and CD-ripper speed.
3. Mount the new image with the latest Daemon Tools. Do NOT USE Alcohol's CD-mount emulation. Rosetta Stone's internal SafeDisc4 protection will sniff-out Alcohol CD emulation.

4. Run SD4hide (SafeDisc4 Hider 1.0 by SKULL) and click "Hide."

5. Run "Rosetta Stone Language" program from the mounted CD image.

6. Relax and Enjoy.

Re: Problem with Rosetta Stone Program

Hello,

I could make a working image file of my Rosetta Stone Chinese program the way MBiker80 did it (except that I don't need the SD4hide to run it) but it don't work with my Russian version. Both are the v6.0 but if I try to start Rosetta Stone Russian with the mounted image file it just says: 'The CD has been changed. Please re-start the Rosetta Stone'. Of course a restart doesn't change anything! Would be nice if anyone has got an idea to fix this problem!

Re: Problem with Rosetta Stone Program

^ Can't be done. I suggest that you contact the distributors of the program for a replacement. If you satisfy them that you have bought a licensed copy, they'll probably replace your lost disc for a fairly nominal fee.

Re: Problem with Rosetta Stone Program

I just downloaded Rosetta Stone...and it came with a ton of other languages. The different languages are stored in their own seperate folders....when the folder is opened it has a bunch of files for that language saved as .SWA files. When i run Rosetta Stone and login under my name, it goes to the next page and says looking for language cd..... I've been trying to figure out how to copy the .SWA files into the program folder under lessons but that didn't work. Do i have to burn the .SWA files to a cd in order for it to work? Thanks

No, you have to buy the program (and also read this and this before posting again).

Alrighty sorry about that. Is this question allowable then? What files are on the language cd it calls for? The .swa files and do you need the .cxt ones? What do the .cxt ones mean?

Re: Problem with Rosetta Stone Program

Wow I'm surprised that there were so many people seeking the same thing I have been. I have the english lvl 1 and 2 version 6. When I tried detecting with a-ray, it said that it detected safedisc4.00, but when I used protect ID on the autorun.exe file it says its using armadillo. Does anyone know of any programs that will allow me to make a backup of the disc? I do not want to use virtual drive or have the entire cd installed into my computer, just want it on cd.

I have tried alcohol 120 on "safedisc" "safedisc 2/3/4" and "safedisc 2/3/4 write efm" modes, and safedisc 2/3/4 wouldn't even let me make the image saying that the source disc did not contain rmps. The other 2 modes burned however, but they are both bad. The drive seems to have a hard time reading the discs and the images and sounds dont work.

Then I tried blindwrite 6 and it also causes the backups to be useless. HELP SOMEONE PLZ!!!

You will have to read the manual that comes with the discs or go the website, I am sure you will find your answers.

I had a similar question. The program uses dynamic immersion to teach language learning in a manner consistent with how people learn their native language. This is at first a very embryonic process that becomes progressively more complex as you advance through the lessons. There is a certain degree of trial and error. Rosetta Stone uses a certain amount of repetition to help cement the language learning process. There are no translation tools. There is an English Curriculum Text which mirrors all other languages within roughly 95% of the time that can be used for comparative purposes.

Sorry to reseutate a long-dead thread, but what does renaming the driver sys files entail? is there anything specific that they need to be changed to? and why is this necessary? is it b/c this will fool rosetta stone into thinking the cloned cd is the original?

the reason i'd like to copy the data cd is b/c i have 3 PCs i'd like to use this software with (one at home, one at work, and one laptop) but i dont want to have to drag the original CD everywhere i go.

thanks in advance for taking the time to reply.

PS.. i am using Rosetta StoneSpanish (Latin America) Levels 1 and 2

Sebadoh,

I am having the same issue w\ my Spanish "Language" CD. the burned CD Autoruns fine but i get a "remove and reinsert CD-Rom" message.

however there is hope...

when i mount the image using Daemon Tools and use SD4Hide, it works perfectly. i know this thread has been dead a long time, and i will not rest until i use an actual CD rather than an image of one, but it is a step in the right direction.

please post here if you have any luck with SD4Hide.

Thanks,
CMM.

For the best results you must name the burned cd the proper way. Whatever cd duplicator you use, just burn it as a master disc or whatever, view more posts here to use the right duplicators.

BUT>>>> the multi language cd must be named: ROS_1.7.9

if you have the version 1.7.9

if you have single language packs, for example
: portuguese level 1 & 2

Name the CD ROS_2.0.8+POR

These naming methods are the way the software picks up the location of the disc when searching for the appropirate cd.

ALSO note that you must not have any non-native looking folder on the cd, e.g. dont put all the folders into one catch all folder like "languages" and then burn the cd.

the folders on the cd usually start with the language folders: e.g. folder icon with a title like "CHI01_01" chinese level one lesson one.

then trailing down to the autorun and setup files.

make the disc look like it came from the factory by having the directory properly laid out.

Re: Problem with Rosetta Stone Program

for the record, my advice is to ensure your "backup cd" of rosetta stone.

This is the most reliable way i have found, and as far as I know, you must use the cd in the drive to use the software and try this:

For the best results you must name the burned cd the proper way. Whatever cd duplicator you use, just burn it as a master disc or whatever, view more posts here to use the right duplicators.

BUT>>>> the multi language cd must be named: ROS_1.7.9

This comment is for any skeptics that are inclined to over-complicate things and do all the crap (i.e. mounting an ISO image, running SD4hide, etc) listed on this particuar thread. Just do as Joosekey advises. If you have the multi language cd, just name it: ROS_1.7.9. I did, and I did it w the cd writer that comes w XP. All the complicated steps not required.

For a second I thought for sure this was the answer to all of my problems. I have a backup of Arabic, levels one and two, two separate CDs. The CDs are named ARA_0919 or something like that. They work 100 PERCENT!!!

So I thought after reading your post my Farsi disc (which has both level one and two backed up on the same disk) was named MyDisc or something stupid. Nope, it's named FAR_0919. Doesn't work. Says Rosetta Stone is not installed on my computer when I put it in, and if I use the latest program version of Rosetta Stone it just says searching for language disc and never finds it.

I am DESPERATE for your help.
