Medieval Total War ?

I am wanting to make a copy of Medieval Total War so I can carry the copy on my trips and not endanger my original.
I think my Ricoh MP7040A is probably behind the times and I may need to get a new drive. That's OK. I have three questions:
(1) Is the Liteon the one to get? and (2) has anyone cloned MTW and (3) will my Ricoh work?

Thanks, I am a newbie

hi !! yes i copied this cd rom 2/3 days ago its copy protection uses safedisc v2.51 I used my liteon 24103s but any liteon would
copy this title ok providing you follow this advice.
1. use clone cd 4 ver. 4.0.1.10
2. use safedisc profile for clone cd from cd freaks clone forum
3. if you play back copied game in your writer activate the hide cdrw media function in clone cd. if in a reader no problem for playback.
the copy you get back is a1 plays back on all other pcs /laptops providing you follow what i have said above.
as for your ricoh drive it depends on whether or not it can read and write correct efm codes correctly for more details on this go to clone cd web site and look up your drive for this information . however i doubt it as not many drives can copy safedisc v2.51 correctly hence the need to get a liteon drive . hope this is helpful any more help drop me a reply ok?

erm not every liteon will make a sucessful copy. however to answer your three questions:

1) liteon or asus

2) i did it yesterday with my liteon 40125s no problem

3) no your burner cannot copy it. check here and you can see that your burner can't do correct efm encoding properly (needed for sd2)

Thanks!

Thanks guys for the reply. I expected that I would have to upgrade the Ricoh ..it did well for quite a while! I am just getting into the CD backup issues and I appreciate the help. I am registered for CloneCD and have the version 4.0. I am looking at the 'scout' program for determing the encryption types but it looks pretty complicated

Thanks to All

Thanks to all who helped me in the past day or so with this issue. As a Newbie, I learned a LOT about Safedisc2, CloneCD, AWS, ATIP, etc. etc.
I have been able to successfully clone M:TW,

(note to Activision and CA: I BOUGHT the whole package ... I only want one lousy copy to use for a run-time. I keep the originals in a super-secret, environmentally controlled, underground vault.)

ok then how did you do it??? i tried EVERYTHING under the sun to make a backup of this game with negative effects. i currently run a toshiba dvd sd m1212 dvd rom and a philips pcrw 1208 cdrw. i have the latest firmware versions for both.

what i have tried:
tried burning using clony xxl settings for safedisc v 2.51 with and w/out aws on.
tried same as above but modified read/write speed to 4x with and without aws on
tried cd freaks settings for safedisc v 2.51 with and without aws on
tried cd freaks settings for safedisc 2.51 with read/write speed at 4x with and without aws on.

ive tried doing it with and without fast error skip, ive tried everything. i know clone cd supports my burner. i seen the little sheepies under the efm column AND buffer column.

fyi i am running the latest version of ccd v 4.1.10 i believe???

any help would be GREATLY appreciated as i have made enough coasters to populate every bar along the west coast trying to make a backup of this game.

thx in advance,
the devil chicken

I'm afraid that you're probably out of luck. Your writer is only a 1 sheep efm burner which means that there aren't any guarantees with the latest safedisc 2 versions. If you've tried but failed with AWS both on and off, I'm afraid it just isn't going to happen for you with your writer.

You could also try patching the clonecd image with beta-blocker and then burning it without AWS. That might work but there are no guarantees and if it fails don't be too disappointed.

Enabling "Hide CD-R ...." the Key for me

All,
As it turned out using the patch to enable CloneCD 4 to "Hide the CD-R Media" was what enabled my game machine to use the copies. So, the burn(s) had worked!!
Did I mention all those 'coasters' I created (5) in my experiments? Well, they ALL work. Now I've got gobs of copies!!!

.... The B.

turning hide cd media didnt work fo me though... oh well. just thought id ask if anyone had similar probs with a similar burner.

ill wait a few months before my upgrade, and ill get a liteon.
no way im wasting the cash now when my burner can still do 90% of whats out there. i can do SD2, just not the newest version of it.

anyway, thx again for the replies

If you are really having problems with this game and everything you tried doesnt work, get a no-cd patch. Yes, I know that is illegal and i am not supposed to discuss illegal things on the forum, but getting a patch is easier than getting a new burner. Just trying to save you some cash. Ofcourse, if you do get the chance to buy another drive, then go ahead, i am jst offering you a poor man's solution.

The game is safedisk, there is no reason to use the hide-cdr media option. Securom needs it.
