When I first installed this game using the original and then launched it using the backup, there was no problems. I did a drive format and reinstalled my os over the weekend. Today I wanted to install Links from the backup and it stops at 28%. I could hear the drive spinning down until it gave me a error message that it can't continue. Do you think it's just a bad backup or media?

I have the Toshoba 1502 and Plextor 24/10/40.

Ive got the original but haven't yet attempted to back it up

Ive got a Liteon 48125W (48/12/48) and ill attempt to back up with my programs to recify which does the job

Well just to be technical ClonyXXL says that this title is SafeDisc 2.51+ but i can imagine its a higher version.

But anyhow after backing up CD 1 with Blindwrite it came as a successful copy and surpased 28% in the install.

You said that you can run the game well so it obviously means you did the second cd correctly. Try reburning the first cd at a slower speed.

Btw what cd brand are you using?

This one is one of the last securom titles that can still be copied though it may not be easy.

Try the Lite-on Securom New profile available from the profiles sticky. If that doesn't work, then try using alcohol with standard securom new settings.

First of all, I'm a complete newbie here & this is my first post. (consider myself to have low-to-middling computer literacy, but after reading several threads here, I think I'm just plain dumb! ). After searching, this seems the closest thread for my problem (despite it's age)

My brand new copy of Links 2003 installed but refused to validate disc 1 for playing. Following advice from G@M3FR3@K on another thread, I've burned a CD-R backup of disc 1 using Nero (@4x) on my Liteon 321235 (32x12x40), uninstalled the game & reinstalled it using this back-up: apparently this has been successful (?), but it still won't validate disc 1 for playing.

I believe I need to unwrap the Safedisc protection from the game's main .exe file. Have d/l Safedisc Analyzer, but don't understand how it works at all, although apparently this game uses vers 2.60.052?

So:-
1) is this what I need to do?
2) how do I get hold of the Unwrapper for this Safedisc version?, &
3) how does this Unwrapper work? (I've tried Unwrapper vers 2.40.10 & have no idea what to do with it ).

Safedisc unwrappers (unsafedisc) modify the game executable and are illegal. If you want to make a back-up copy of a safedisc 2.6 protected cd look here.
