| image CloneCD readable for other programs??? I was wondering... CloneCD does raw-reading and creates an image. Is this a real image of the cd or is it in special CloneCD format? (Like I mentioned in other threads I am looking for a program which is able to raw-read the content of the cd. Can I use CloneCD for this?) If I can use the image, how is it built up? Are the first sectors of the cd the first blocks in the image? (Related to this question: how did Olli and the people of Daemon Tools find out that the new weak sector is '0x2f' (don't know the value, but that doesn't matter for my question)?) ![]() |

| The main img part is the same as that created by the likes of cdrwin. Sector size of 2352 etc. Im not sure how olli gets the stuff in the sub file, whenever Ive played around with the read CD commands, those extra 96 bytes per sector look nothing like the ones in the file made by CloneCD! In any case, you can tell that its not in a special format by the way CloneCD can now create CUE files for burning in CDRWIN and FireBurner etc.

| so if i create an image with clonecd using the BIN format, then burn it with CDRwin it should make a proper backup? I was just wondering if clone writes it's own images better, or if that has nothing to do with it. |

| It's proprietory & not [real] ISO format (not be confused with ~*ISO*~) as an aside, D-Tools supports the .ccd now

| If you create an image with the 'create cue file' option ticked, yes, you can burn it in CDRWIN. The .img file made by CloneCD IS a standard 2352 sector dump of the cd. If the image was made from a single session / track cd, you could use any cdr tool to burn it back - without needing either of the other two files. The cue / ccd file is needed for all other types of images - so that indexs, tracks and sessions are all put back where they should be! A 'proper back' is considered one where errors are copied from the source to the destination. CDRWIN doesnt do a very good job of burning errors eventhough it has an option for 'RAW write'. If you are backing up games and stuff, you cant beat CloneCD. The ISO file extension is generally used to describe single session / track images with a sector size of 2048. A BIN (or in CloneCDs case, IMG) file is typically 2352. I think it was a great idea of Olli's to seperate the two data areas - Main and Sub Channel. Slightly more processing involved as the info is returned as a single 2448 chunk, but it makes life a lot easier in the future - well, for us anyway ![]()
