I am baffled

I have checked the search and did not give relevent to my situation coz I live in Australia. Ok I borrowed Commandos 3 discs game. Now I checked with clonny latest :cd freaks: and it said no protection on any cds, even though I was suspicious Sony DADC is written on the inside of all three discs. Anyway I copied all three discs with settings for securom new and safedisc 2 I think

Read subs
fast error skip

write I left at default

I can even install the whole game with backups but as soon as I start the game with the 3rd disc in the drive it said "please insert c2 game disc" this even with the original disc 3 in the drive. Well then I uninstalled it and installed it with the originals and now I can play with both the copy and original of the disc 3.

Well I have the liteon 24x burner and
liteon 16x dvd drive :running the game in this drive:

I have to return the game soon so would love your input help

Hey,

This probably wont be much help to ya but I will tell you anyway. I managed to copy commandos (all 3 discs) using Nero by dumping the contents of each disc to my hard disk then copying it to CD using my Ricoh 7200A CD-writer. I made 2 sets of copies this way and both run fine (install and play) even when I play from my cd-writer.......odd thing is you say it asks for the disc...that is strange coz I am pretty sure I didn't need the CD in the drive to run it

I am at work at the mo so I double check when I get home

Futureproof why so much sarcasm man?

I'll tell you exactly what I did.
***Friend asked for his game to be backed up(I hate strategy
games anyway and wont play it coz its time consuming, and
time is what i do not have)
***I said ok
***checked with clony and the links you provided and cd freaks
search
***clony stuffed me around, and the settings sticky post of yours
led me to several sites with different opinions of what
protection it comes with. So I looked at the cds carefully after
I searched cdfreaks, very same post as you are referring to
which mentions most of the protection but no one seemed
sure what it was. So after going to gamecopy world I figured
securom/new coz sony dadc i saw on the inside of the cds
***but since i was not sure i used setting for all safedisc 1,2 and
securom of your posting
***Installed the games
Dvd drive F:\disc 1 install
burner G:\disc 2 install
Dvd drive F:\disc 3 install no problem installing

then proceded to check if friend actually would be able to use backups. Well no original discs were not workin as in dvd or burner drive. Well today it worked with the same backups, but his time i only used the dvd drive for install. So my conclusion would be even though I had anticipated most of the things one will let you down sometimes.

this is what extra protection i think it has and most were not able to copy it. Well i think that the game checks the drive during install and not when you start the game to see if it has an atip, and once it finds atip it continue to install with sh**ty files or something, screws you when you want to start the game others wise it would have started when I put the originals in the drives with the first install.

I hope this actually helps someone. thats what we are here for help and to be helped

This is unlikely. Look here to confirm the prot as SD2.

Does your Log have errors like this one (see the yellow triangles?):

This is my MOHAA read but Commandos 2 is the same (I checked again). Only one of the discs is protected - it's #3. Discs #1 & #2 can be read with all off & written with default. Disc #3 needs FES (click settings & choose default).

Discs 1 & 3 must be on 80' discs, Disc #2 can fit onto a 74' disc if you are so inclined.

Sorry man i did not look at the time in the log. To check it should i make an image file and check it. but as far as i can remember i did not see it hang around reading any of the three discs at 0% or 1% as safedisc does usually but i could be wrong, i will check it confirm

Ok do not want to sound stupid but i went to gamecopy world again to check what protection it has but iut said " demo check". What is this ? coz never heard of this protection before

thanks for the help

Check this site first, it's accurate but behind GCW.

At GCW "Demo Check", "CD Checks" is indicative of the ATIP Check which can be SecuROM *new* or SD 2.4.xxx and onwards.

Yep! Down & Dirty steps to establishing type of prot (error or subs):
  • Start a read to the HDD - all off
  • No errors? Stop & read again with data sub
  • Errors? Stop & read again with FES (default settings), no subs
  • If no errors - mount the image in DAEMON Tools without SecuROM emulation
  • Works? - no prot (RTCW)
  • Doesn't work? turn on SecuROM emulation
  • Works? Bingo - SecuROM
  • Write accordingly
  • Note: If "Tracks" appear in the Log Window then it may be ProtectCD (Errors, Mixed Mode with digital IDs) & you must read both subs & write with "Don't repair..."

Check DMA in Device Manager
Install Adaptecs ASPI File Layer system (4.7)
Read at max to HDD: Fast Error Skip (choose default in Settings)
Write at the speed of your CD-R: Close...Buffer...& AWS checked (can't be in US or JP operating system locales)

It's not really - the steps are quite simple when you sit down to do them.

kein = none. RTCW is not copy protected; Read: all off; Write: default...use an 80' disc (the old oversize trick)

I copied quake 3 ta before which said kein but disc seemed empty to the drive(nero). Used defaults for safedisc and that worked so i used the same with rtcw and it also worked. funny though it(clone) behaved exactly as though copying safedisc 2. hmmmmm anyway while writing my system never goes in buffer under run but copying rtcw was as if my system was drained of evry ounce of ram coz clone was updating not frequently and burner kept going in buffer underrun on off on off....
weird
