Clone CD Discuss, How to make a backup of Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast at Burning Software forum; I've got CloneCD 3.3.4.1 and it looks like Jedi Knight II has some sort of SecuRom protection, but I'm not positive. How do I make a perfect backup?

did u try and search this forum for how to copy SecuRom protection?
lots of post about how to copy it.

only settings i use to copy this protection are:

read settings:

read sub channel data from data tracks selected
read sub channel data from audio tracks selected

reading subs from audio not needed but i do it anyways.

burn settings:

burnproof/buffer underrun selected
always close last session selected

thats it.
hope this works for ya.

what burner do u have?
Lite-On burners from what i've read on this forum are having problems copying SecuRom*new* protection, could be wrong though.
i just bought this game so i will try and make backups with my Plex 24x and my Lite-On 24x.
i'll post back with the results.

HAPPY EASTER ALL !!!

Will this setup work at all? Also, if I want to make backups, should I copy the cd to an image file first and then burn from the image to the blank CD or should I burn CD to CD?

If the game indeed has the SecuROM protection your setup will work. Although you need to read the game with your writer (SubChannel Data reading) and I would suggest using a low speed (I had a Sony CRX-120 and I found that SubChannel Data reading is more accurate at a lower (4x) speed). So you need to first create an image and then write it back to a CD-R. It's also not a bad idea to scan the disc first with ClonyXXL to check the protection...

I did use Clony XXL and I even chose the english version. I told it to scan the disk and I understood SecuRom, but everything else was in German so I didn't know what to do next....

Hey,

Got the game on Friday and backed it up successfully on Saturday. I have the UK version, used Clony XXL english version on it and it did not detect any protection.

I used SD2 settings as these are my default settings and all worked fine. I don't even need anything like Hide cd-r media for it to work.....all in all it is a most excellent game for backing up

Off the point a bit not sure if anyone else noticed this but aren't Lucas Arts taken the copy protection thing a little bit far (in the other direction). As far as I can tell there is absoultely no cd-protection (other than cd checks if you can call that protection ) and there is not even a cd-key. Is this right?

I have not entered a cd-key and I have been playing multiplayer all weekend so I guess there isn't.

Just thought I would raise this point as it is really odd for a games company to release software without all the usual stuff to stop you making a backup

Maybe Lucas Arts has seen that there's no point in investing time a protection since every protection will be broken somehow. If a 1:1 copy isn't possible (tages for instance) people can always get a crack for the game. On the other hand this game does make it too easy

Run Clony XL

i got if from this link http://people.freenet.de/Clony.eng/ClonyXLFinal_eng.zip

When clonyXL tells you what kinda of protection the Game has, select the right setting in CloneCD.

Hey,

Gamefreak I get where your coming from and I read an interview with the game developers of Quake III as to why they had no or very little proctection to actually copy the game and they said the same thing.....there is no point because people will ALWAYS find a way to get round it. However.....unless you know something I dont.....key authentication works extremely well and has NEVER been cracked.

At least I have never seen any that work. I know people figure out how to make keygens to generate keys that "appear" to be valid but as these have never been registered with the gaming databases the key is rejected and you can't play multiplayer.

Just odd coz JKII seems to use the Quake III engine so I would have thought they would have a key authentication built in just like QIII and RtCW.

Odd
