I have a plextor 4/2/20 and together with a plex 40x
i made copies of renegade and mohaa.

they work like charm without hide-cdr media

I've tested it in a plex 40, philips dvd 6x32x, a samsung dvd 6x32 and a plex32x and an noname 8x cd-rom worked in every drive.

but what i noticed was the type of cdr's used is very important
i have platinum and philips silverspeed 24x,
the platinum takes much longer to load than the philips, they (philips) skip the safedisk loading much faster.

I agree with the sentiments. What SD2 titles have you backed up with your Ricoh? My MP7163A did Red Alert and some other early revisions of SD2. Or do you patch/crack?

I have got MaxPayne, Commandos2, C&C Yuri's Revenge, Z: steel soldiers(I am not sure this is SD2 protected).

Max Payne is the latest game I managed to make backup CD.

I have not used any patch or crack, but Commandos2 sometimes do need CloneCD Tray and sometimes don't.

Well I backed up commandos2 with betablocker
but how can I or where to get the crack file of MOHAA so that my 7083 can back up a 1:1 copy of MOHAA?

.... NO?
my m8 has the 1210a and he made a perfect copy of Medal of Honour, no problem.

If you read my other posts, you will see I have made a working backup of MOD with my 121032s written at x4 otherwise it will only work in my UltraPleX

Unsure - minor variations in chip design/construction; if I knew the answer I could solve world famine

If I understand correctly, you want to have patch (Cd backup file - like .exe file).
As far as I know there isn't any patch for SD2 Cd-backup file.

Since my Cd-RW backups all SD2 not the latest (like MOHAA SD V2.5) I never tried to find CD-backup file.

Another working drive...

For what it is worth... I have an old Mitsumi 4804TE. It only writes at 4x, but this drive is gold. Supports 99min CDs, and as I have recently learned, it seems to support writing SD2 2.51.021 CloneCD images. I had to turn Amplify Weak Sectors on, and use Hide CDR Media while playing, but this is hardly a big deal.

I do not have another drive to test with, so I'm unsure if a cd written with this drive is limited to running on this drive only. I am also unsure if this drive can be used as a source drive for copies. Hope this helps though.

hmmm

it seems my post has been ignored...

I want to buy a READER (no burner) will LiteOn DVD drives read through copy protections?if not which LiteOn CD drives will?

Will the images read by the LiteOn Drives be burned correctly (i.e. readable) into a Samsung drive?

All I know is that the LiteOn dvd's a good source for backing up sd2.51

All your posts are here. Was it this one? It's in the General Hardware Forum. Asked & answered I think...Toshiba DVD-ROM or LITEON DVD-ROM & you can't go wrong

Remember, Plextors are very good at high speed DAE. Toshi & LITEON DVDs will rip at 8x because they don't have the extra circuitry that the Plex has. Liteys can't rip protected audio either.

For game titles stick to Tosh or Litey
