Explaination Needed about Protections and Game Patches Please

OK here is my question.
Say I have BF1942 which is SD 2.52 or whatever. I make a copy using my liteon burner w/ clonecd and no amply weak sectors. It makes a working copy. It works in a bunch of PCs with no problems.
Now I upgrade the game to 1.2 or whatever and it upgrades the copy protection on the game to SD 2.8x or whatever and the cds stop working in some pcs but not others, I mean the game won't read the cd anymore.
Now I understand the protection is up to 2.8 but on the cd it is still 2.52 correct? So the cds should still work, but some don't in some different PCs with different cd roms.
I just don't understand that if you burn a good copy in the first place why does it fail later on?
So my question is how do you burn a working copy of the origional CDs that will work no matter what patch comes out for the game? Can someone try to explain this to me.
Thanks

When you start the game, the copy-protection is checked. The check is done via a file on your hard disk, mostly via the main executable of the game. When you install a new patch the executable file can be updated and the check can be improved causing the game to fail. The disc is still the same but the check has been improved. It's quite simple

So I guess that if we all burned true 1:1 copies then no matter what we patched the game to the cdcheck would still work. In other words, there is no such thing as a 1:1 copy unless the cd has no protection on it at all.
