DVD backup trouble

I am using CloneCD 5.3.0.1 and AnyDVD 6.1, trying to make a backup of Neverwinter nights Diamond. I have verified the CloneCD tray is running, and
hide CDR media is enabled. When I try running the game off of the backup DVD, I am still getting the "emulator detected, turn off the emulator" message.
When I disable the CloneCD tray and try the backup DVD, I get the message "original Disc not found, please insert original and try again". I have re-enabled the CloneCD tray and rebooted, and the backup will still not work. I have never had an issue with AnyDVD or CloneCD before and have succesfully backed up other DVD based games and movies since with no problems.

Re: DVD backup trouble

Anydvd has nothing to do with backing up securerom protected games (or copyprotected games in general). And Clonecd has rarely been useful for later Securerom protected games, because Clonecd does not offer DPM measurement (or an alternative).

I'm not even sure if a twin peaks backup method would work for you using clonecd.

I do know that if all you want to do is run the game without the original cd in your drive, GameJackal will work (this program does not burn though)--as will Alcohol 120% and probably Daemon Tools.

GameJackal tends to work reasonably well for Securerom and Safedisc protections (but not much else) and also has the added benefit of using smaller image or profiles than competing virtual drive products.

Clonecd is very useful for backing up movies with Anydvd, provided you're using Verbatim +R DL discs (this is a better solution than using the same blank media with Clonedvd2, if you wish to retain the original layer break).

Re: DVD backup trouble

Thanks for the help. Been using AnyDVD, DVDshrink and Nero 8 for DVD backup (with Verbatim +R DL discs) for over a year now. 950+ movies backed up without a frisbee(except when I needed to wait for new AnyDVD versions that supported newest hot movie releases). I've also backed up several older CD games with CloneCD no problem.
This whole Neverwinter Nights thing has really thrown me for a loop. Hate to be a pain, but Alcohol 120% has got tons of options. Would it be too much to ask if I should just use default installation settings or start toggling things? Should I make an image, then burn the image to disc, or should I just use the copy wizard? I have no idea what options to enable or disable. I got the trial but if this makes a workable backup of Neverwinter nights, I'll buy the license.
If you need any help with DVDshrink, Nero or AnyDVD, let me know and I'll help you.

Clonecd and Anydvd make that process a lot easier (just load the original disc in Clonecd with Anydvd running in the background; this method retains the original layer break when using +R DL discs), but whatever you're happy using is cool with me.

There's a chance the backup will only work on the system you have Alcohol installed on. There's an Alcohol forum here that I suggest you make use of:

The first step is to run something like ProtectionID to determine what the protection being used is. You can do a google search for this freeware.

The second step is to start reading some guides:

If you just want to run the game without the original disc in your system, I would recommend Game Jackal for Securerom and Safedisc games before recommending Alcohol 120%; Game Jackal is a much easier program to learn (but it also does a lot less than Alcohol does) and doesn't require third party programs to hide virtual drives.
