Dolly the sheep has died!!!

Maybe it's time Ollie found a new mascot?

Or does her spirit live on in CloneCD?

Dolly the sheep is dead

Dolly the sheep, the first animal to be cloned from an adult cell, has died.

The Roslin Institute said the decision was taken to put down Dolly, six, after a veterinary examination showed she had a progressive lung disease.

Dr Harry Griffin said: "Sheep can live to 11 or 12 years of age and lung infections are common in older sheep, particularly those housed inside.

"A full post-mortem is being conducted and we will report any significant findings"

Dolly was cloned from the breast cell of a six-year-old adult ewe and was born on July 5 1996 at the Roslin Institute.

Her birth was only announced seven months later and was heralded as one of the most significant scientific breakthroughs of the decade.

Dolly, a Finn Dorset named after the singer Dolly Parton, bred normally on two occasions with a Welsh mountain ram called David, first giving birth to Bonnie in April 1998 and then to three more lambs in 1999.

In January last year when she was diagnosed with a form of arthritis.

Sung: Why do I cry when Dolly the Sheep deserves to DIIiiiiiiiiieeeeee!

In my best System Of A Down imitation voice....

Anyways, the sheep was overweight and had genetic defects. Heck, it was the first cloned animal wasn't it? They will get better at cloning and before long you will see multiple versions of famous and rich people everywhere.

Could you imagine an NBA team with 6 Micheal Jordans, a few Shaqs, and a couple Mutumbos?

Unfortunately, Bill Gates would make so many clones they would take over the world.

"May she rest in peace"

By the way, maybe using word "it" instead of "she" would be more correct since as far as I know Dolly was a sheep not a human.

They should clone it again and again. That way it will always be a Dolly.
